I know JLo's made his mind up about Brodie but all I know is when he was playing we made finals and i thought he played well.

Since then he hasn't played & we haven't played finals. Ultimately JLo will play who he wants but who says he's a good judge? 🤔

As a step further, I think we need that player that is just as good on the wing as onball because at the moment Johnson and Ras are being shoehorned into that role and they are clearly best purely onball.

We need our McCluggage, Sidebottom, Holmes, Freijah (a reach but man hes looking good). Reid could be that player. I do think Noddy could be decent in that role but obviously not in the same stratosphere as those names. Johnson and Ras are twice as good on the ball as on the wing IMO.

The club simply isn't going to recruit another mature genuine AFL mid while we have these names but we can't have Brodie as basically the only onballer at Peel so I dont know what they do. McVee could be what we are after I suppose
McVee would be a good get if the plan is to move Chappy up to the wing

Chappy moving to the wing is the plan for BigFooty Freo fans, not so sure about the coaching staff.

Brodie's been on the outer for over 2 seasons now. If he was any good, 1 of the other 17 teams would've tried poaching him. You don't have to trust JLO's judgement, but if every key decision maker sees nothing in him, maybe there's nothing to see.

We've seen from last off-season a few fringe-ish mids go to other clubs and thrive. Parker, Kennedy, Macrae. Not to mention others linked to moves that don't move. If Brodie belonged in that group, someone would've tried snagging him.

Chappy would solve the inside mid issue. (1.93cms)

I wonder if him and Young could play 50/50 midfield and back, especially if Erasmus does not extend

Based on size i suppose, whose to say he actually would be any good though?

We already have the players on our list but we are a bit timid with experimenting imo.

Inside winger.
Brayshaw. Describe every trait you would want in an inside winger, line up a list of Andrew Brayshaws strengths next to it.

Clark. Does plenty of attacking from where he is so no real objections but he is another who could do well as an inside winger.

Big bodied inside mid.
Chapman. Watch him in traffic next time we play, he has lightning agility, the required aggression and skills as good as anyone on our list.

Jackson. Doesn't get much bigger than 199cm. Point of difference is the obvious mismatch he can create, admittedly I worry that this can be exploited both ways.

O'Driscoll. Speed, size, power, acceleration, goal kicking, left footed. What are Serongs points of difference by comparison?

Young, Chapman, Bolton, Clark and Brayshaw are the people we should be feeding the ball to at every opportunity. The rest should be basing their game on A) getting the ball to give it to them and B) protecting them/blocking for them to allow them to hit a good kick.

Chapman would want to bulk up a bit and whether his body can handle that might be more the limiting factor than ability - because he would add some dynamic movement - he runs every direction except the one he is currently on when he gets the ball.

At least if Chapman goes mid maybe his htb turnovers would happen closer to our goal than the oppos. People love to go on about MJ getting caught but Chappy regularly bites off more than he can chew trying to step 3,4 people.
People go on about Johnson's because they are 0 IQ plays where he is free and seeks contact because he has been taught to draw the tackle before giving.

Will Day is pretty lean and goes alright. Over the last several years he attends 60-70% of centre bounces and averages 4-5 clearances.

I didn't see the game but I noticed the couple of games before the Sydney game that Johnson has gone back to seeking contact again. He looked so much better when he had stopped doing that. I don't know who is telling him to do it, but deadest he should ignore them.

Some of Chapmans are zero iq too where he has options but bites off too much. They’re almost worse though because they happen in the back half
Agree. I rate Chapman but he does get a free pass on here for his errors. The times he does take the oppo on and gets caught htb is up there with MJ and alot has been said of his elite skills but the number of unforced errors where he has kicked it straight to the oppo is up there too.. can't recall was in the syd or saints game but was his kick from the back 50 to the middle..wasn't a switch of direction either

I get frustrated with MJ too but he does have traits such as burst from packs that others don't have, which are handy

It is weird though. When he first arrived from GC he was a revelation. He was great inside, he had an amazing ball winning ability and then was evasive and quick with the smart handball. Classic 'extractor'. The main knock on him was his tank. I just don't know what's happened really.

Mundy always had a shite tank for midfielder and left us end of 2022.

That should've helped Brodie stay in the best 23 if anything.

It took JLo so long to trial Young into the midfield. I wish he would now trial Chappie and Clark at least one more level up the ground. Clark would make an excellent winger and possibly could even be used as a mid. He has the speed. Maybe it wouldnt work, I dont care, try it. We are one A grade midfielder short of a flag.

Enough moving defenders into the middle. Then our defence will be shot even more than it already is

There is no world in which Clark should be moved. He is exactly where we need him to be.
