We offered more for Kelly, and it had no impact.

If McVee does not want to go to Eagles, then it doesn't matter what they offer.

We simply need to offer Pick 29 and leave it. It is fair offer.
Did you see the price West Coast paid for Kelly?

It's probably more than we paid for Bolton if you weigh all parts up.

And there's no way Pick 30 (which it is now btw), which will be pick 35 or so this time next week is a fair price for McVee.

Any package we trade for McVee worth less than pick 20 will be worth it and tbh that's assuming we get 2024 McVee for the remainder of his career.

Just another thought - If Adelaide trade their F1 to Melbourne what would people's thoughts be on Picks 11 and 29 for McVee and Adelaide's F1.

If the draft is that weak I wouldn't be surprised if we go for it.
Why do you keep suggesting trades that overvalue McVee? No way am I trading for Adelaide’s F1 if they have Trac they are a top 4 team.

I still want a pick for Rodriguez.

If WC are into McVee then good, they can get him for free. The Victorian media don't know what McVee looks like or what number he is, they know Starcevich as the premiership player with no hair from Brisbane.

They won't care if WC screw Melbourne by taking him in the PSD.

Get him cheaper this way.

Thank god we sold Cerra, Lobb, Hill, Langdon, et al. to the highest bidder not the club they requested. And they had 10 choices so we got great deals on them right! Market forces baby:'(

Andy Maher:

That's different. Players should have the choice of which Vic club they want to play come home to. Those non-Vic clubs are being unreasonable, you'd be filthy with them if you were the AFL.

I’m not against finding a F1. If nothing else it’s fun to deathride teams.

If we can turn 11 into a hypothetical later current first plus a F1 I’d be all for it, even if we have to give up 2nds. I’m all about top picks with the squad we have.

Can always get lucky with picks 20-60 in my opinion.

100% how it works.

Pick will be 35 after free agent compo and Weagles welfare pick.

We may need to do an upgrade on a later pick.

Agree with this. We likely throw in R4, F4 or swap pick 48 with 55.

FWIW think West Coast just puts pick 20 on the table.

Pick 25 or whatever it ends up being after FA compensation isn't an unreasonable price for McVee.

All it does is ensure we need to upgrade or add something extra to our second rounder and as I've said heaps of time already I've got no issue with it given:
  • I think McVee is worth it.
  • I don't think we're taking anymore than three picks and don't think Whan is truly in the conversation to go before our third rounders.

In an ideal world we can do third round pick swaps with Carlton and Port (only 3-4 upgrade each) and keep Richmond's third rounder. I fear Carlton might have too much else going on though and as they'd be the first pick swap that probably puts Port Adelaide's third rounder out of reach.

Are there any examples where a player of this level has gone for a 1st round pick?

Even our own trades of players at this level have been R2’s with random sweeteners. JOM, Aish, Clark all had achieved more or rated higher but were traded with R2 picks.

Why are you so obsessed with over paying for McVee? He’s not worth a first rounder so why pay one for him? Our 2nd rounder is fine or some late steal knives if Melbourne push hard.

The Langdon deal is the test case and they can’t even blame us for Jackson considering our slide the following year.

Henry another deal and he had a much better last season than McVee. Melbourne can have pick 29 or our F2 if they are worried about dilution this season compared to next year.

Didn’t Cerra actually go to Carlton because he did want to do the right thing by Freo and Carlton had best offer?

I'm not sure I really believe that. I think it was simply Melbourne making a pitch, but Cerra always wanted to go to Carlton because Italians and Carlton go hand in hand.

In what world is swapping a F1 for a first rounder paying a first rounder?

Honestly wouldn't be surprised if the club thinks the F1 is a better draft pick.

Everyone just wants the best deal for Fremantle for a change.

There's a long way to go before next season, Robinson might be a top pick, might be a pick between 10 and 20, might be later.

WC have five picks ahead of us if we don't have pick #11. If we keep our first, it's one pick ahead.

Not that it's super important, but WC oscillates between picking only WA players and then seemingly ignoring WA players.

I want Rodriguez

McVee is worth around a mid-second round pick in a normal draft with no priority pick or free agency compo bs. That 29 will easily fall to 35+ by the time it can be used, and in a supposedly weak draft, which will be Melbourne's argument. I can see where they're coming from in all honesty - I'd want us to do the same.

Bottom line though is that he's out of contract and wants to go home. Melbourne have no bargaining power, so unfortunately for them, they will eventually accept unders for what Judd's actually worth - just like what we did with Langdon. Them's the brakes sometimes.

It should be 29 (now 30 with WC's charity hamper) plus maybe a swap of some later picks. He's a young player who's shown some good signs, not a star's value by any means.

What's happened to this Darcy talk? I'm happy to let him go, if we get something awesome in return (Geelong)!
He's getting paid way too much just as a tap ruckman! Brizzy have 2 more damaging big fellas than Darcy, and their salary is probably as much as Darcy. 2 for the price of one! He's getting paid too much

Agree, he is worth more than pick 30, but other clubs e.g. Geelong would just offer enough that Melbourne would not want to walk away with nothing.

Start with Pick 30, then offer a few pick swaps to get it over the line on the last day :)

Melbourne Picks
24 55 60 78 96 114

Freo Picks.
30 39 48 66 84

How many list spots do we have available?

Pick 11 for a F1 of the team who finished too of the ladder is close to a late first in value at best. I would swap our F1 for Adelaide but only because I like to gamble, I wouldn’t swap our pick 11 for our F1 or any of the teams who finished in the top 8.

Futures are worth less, especially on draft night. North paid an F1, which is now pick 2 to get a pick in the late 20’s last year.

I have said this before, i don't think Banfield cuts the mustard as out 15th-22nd player for where we want to go

BUT

he seems to be one of those charmed characters (through fate and his own hard work) and I presume down the track a he will bob up through injury/suspension and be a part of our first flag team. Probably have an LRT type game too and kick a couple too.

No way I'm handing 11 over for Judd.

Just be Geelong and Hawthorn - we have this pick on offer and if we have to use future non-first round picks so be it. The fact he has nominated us is a big win and we now give them just on fair market value.

There may also be other names that appear that we may wish to trade for.

Bailey Banfield is fortunate he is a finger short of the same height as Pavlich. His career looks very different if he was 183cm and not the 191cm.

North traded F1 (pick #3) for #27 and a F2
GC traded pick #11 (locked in priority future pick) for pick #27 so they could take Jeremy Sharp

Just saw they've announced Tassie's list build tools. Unless im missing something, no impact to the 26 draft? While I dont really love the Docker82 trade, I think you'll find F1s have A LOT of value this year.

Next years draft does shape as a lot better AND there is stricter bidding rules and there is no Tassie impact. Teams will want to load up.

Pick 11 for Adelaide's first next year probably isnt too far off the mark
