I have no idea about the potential draftees so I will just list the generic qualities I expect our first round pick to possess:

  1. Height 190 -195cm
  2. sub 10 sec 100m
  3. sub 4 minute 1500m
  4. Able to go 12 rounds with Aleksandr Usyk
  5. IQ 135 or higher
  6. Laser like disposal by foot or hand on both sides.
  7. Excellent contested mark and contested possession winner
  8. Excellent decision maker
  9. 100% team player
  10. Utterly fearless
  11. Lives like a Trappist Monk ie eschews booze, drugs, women, music , social media and maintains a vow of silence always except at training or on the field.
  12. Votes conservative
  13. Likes cats.

I think this is a fairly modest start.
If they can't nail an elite falsetto in karaoke then I'm not interested.

Sounds boring. I want a bloke who kicks as many goals as he drank beers the night before the game and has as many disposals as he had shots the night before...

With those attributes you would hope he loves women and starts producing father sons ASAP

I think we need a higher pick for that guy.

On moving up the draft I could see an opportunity with Gold Coast and pick 18. They will likely do a swap on draft night trading 15 with North for 25,26.

Western Bulldogs and GWS did a trade for cost of 37 moving 14 to 12. Port last year traded up one spot for cost of 3rd.

Given that scenario, and I’m not keen on giving up a F2 but if it secures the player we want:
20, F2 (Freo) > 18, F3 (Gold Coast)

We could offer F3 because in reality it is a one position change with the 18 otherwise going to chew up bid matching points.

Gold Coast after improving their points position with North will likely be seeking something extra for 2026 at minimal loss in points.

Other than that Gold Coast 15 looks tied up with North. Adelaide won’t trade 16 (Brisbane tried to get them to slide as part of Ah Chee trade). Then there is Brisbane’s 17.

Brisbane’s 17 could be an option but that will definitely cost F2 I would have thought unless there is a pre-arranged deal in place as part of Freo’s extreme goodwill in trade week (on the previso that Annable doesn’t get bid too early).

The question to be asked is would 17 or 18 get us into the position to select player we want? Is the the involvement of F2 worth the cost.

Not too keen to move up using future picks tbh. Would rather us just take the two picks as they come.

Would rather delist and re-rookie Sturt for three reasons:
  • The salary cap benefits of going 36-6.
  • Don't believe Whan gets a bid inside our second selection but think he's worth making sure we get him.
  • If Sturt recovers well I think it's easier to justify a rookie list spot than senior list spot in 2027. Some would say he's broken at this point but IMO he's still got the ability to make enough impact over a 10-15 period to win us one or two important games.

I agree with Sturt although would you do this before or after the draft. I guess we could do before and if Whan somehow manages to get through to Cat B rookie we could add Sturt back on primary list via PSD. Can’t see anyone jumping in on an injury prone and he won’t be available again until end of July.

The way it looks is Walls would like to have two active picks 20 and 47. I’d be open to using an F3 to move either up a few spots but not F2. Then if Whan is bid in the main draft we will match which means we need to consider our options which would possibly mean moving a player to rookie (via delist and rookie list) or go 37 + 5. Our preferred is 36+6 but we want Whan on our list one way or another. The likelihood is he slips to >50 in ND or possibly rookie and in both scenarios we will select and make adjustments to our list.

On Whan it did seem Walls was open to going to 37-5 if needed.

If they're not set on 36-6 everything else doesn't really matter.

We can re-rookie Sturt next year but tbh I feel they'd be less likely to be takers this year.

I'd be open to trading 2027 picks to move up but tbh I don't really like the idea of compromising our last draft before Tasmania comes in so want us to keep our 2026 picks.

Big Mason Cox delisted by the Pies. Wonder who needs his goofy inconsistent ass. Maybe West Coast?

Mason Cox is available 💪💪💪 ruck depth sorted

Didn't JL try to recruit him once?

Did you hear something?

Hope they did and he finds his way back. I'm thinking he would be more developed than Riddle, and may actually get an opportunity.
I saw this tweet and came here to confirm. It's weird because if you look at the Gold Coast Big Footy board, the fans have NFI if Knobel is being offered a contract. It seems to depend on how many selections they are gonna use at the draft.

They've got one senior listed players and a lot of rookie list players out of contract.

Don't expect many of them to not be on their list next year but they'll probably make sure there is as many list spots available as they can without delisting players that'll get poached.

Delisting the senior listed player (Holman) and two rookies probably majes the most sense. Would leave them at 29-4. They'd take six picks and either upgrade a rookie or redraft Holman in the PSD. Then add the delisted rookies (and possibly Holman) back onto their list via the rookie draft.

Think Knobel would be a possible delist and re-draft tbh.

Was on the list of Free Agents for 2026 that the afl put out a couple weeks ago. Must have signed two years
