New rules this year. Still a $1 Million prize.
Men's and women's are worth equal and points are allocated in reverse ladder order (1 point for 18th, 18 points for the premiers)

So North Melbourne women's can go undefeated again but will still only be worth 18 points.

I never understood why they didnt just invent a new joint award to try and encourage clubs to develop their women's teams, as if anyone other than old school footy nerds knew or cared or celebrated McClelland trophies. Just another case of AFL house not having a singular clue about the football community.

Palpable anger about women's teams being included in the Champion Club award, for the third year.

Geelong in a great spot if they beat Hawthorn on Thursday and Brisbane on Saturday, which is probably what should happen. But stranger things etc.

****ing ridiculous that they have extended this to include finals now when it was 'relaunched' only recently as a H&A award.

Pointless crap. Just give the flag sides a bit more money and don't bother.
It's a trophy literally no one cares about so let them do whatever they want I say

Its always been a home and away award.

Brisbane's sook came about because they won the Men's Premiership from a low ladder position. And Hawthorn's presence in 2nd on the ladder in AFLW was massively influenced by only playing the one game against a side that qualified for Finals.

The combined award is always gonig to be a joke when AFLW teams don't even play everyone in their league in a season.

This is a far better criteria than it was in previous season's with the AFLW games worth double, but it's still flawed and will always be without each club playing each other exactly once in both competitions. With finals it's no longer the McClelland Trophy and should have been called something else.

By attaching a $1 million prize to it the AFL are desperate for this to gain relevance but it will never be taken seriously in its previous or new forms.

Fair point.

Yes I am aware it's always been a H&A award - dating back to VFL u19s, Reserves etc

Probably safe to just let it die and come up with somethkng else for the joint men's and women's award....but as you say, it's a pretty stupid one either way.

No-one cares about the trophy, but they do care about the million wing wangs you get with it.

It's the trophy version of Jack Bowes, no-one actually wanted him, just the Pick 7 he came with.

The same Jack Bowes that will be lining up in a Grand Final this weekend?

For all the bagging with Bowes he's been solid as a forward/mid for the Cats. Is he worth the pay maybe not, but he's doing a role in side in the grand final. He's doing more than the guy picked at selection 7 that's for sure.

Fair enough having a joint award but appropriating the name was stupid. Imagine what McClelland would have said if you had a time machine and advised him of the AFLW concept.

Should be interesting. With North Melbourne being invincible in the Womens game, Brisbane womens just need to make the prelim and this trophy is locked away

Been an expensive few weeks for Geelong.

And another straight sets finals exit for Hawthorn AFLW is growing in plausibility, which would hand the million to Brisbane (with Adelaide an outside chance).

Might as well update for rd 10 of AFLW, 2 rounds to go, but finals is where its all going to happen.
