Back by popular demand. However...

There has been some aggro from publishers of articles in recent months about sites that copypasta their content onto other sites, particularly the paywalled ones, which could lead to fines and whanot for those that do it. Apparently there are copywrite laws for these things. As a result we can no longer have full articles reposted here, so if you come across something then please refrain from nabbing the whole thing and just post the link. Quoting a paragraph or two and linking the source is fine however, just don't get greedy.

Here's the updated site-wide rule: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/please-read-re-copyright-posting-newspaper-articles.1389553/

Here's an example of what you can do:

"If West Coast was the gold standard for how to operate, then Fremantle's arrival into the AFL in 1995 could be viewed as a series of cautionary tales.

Despite eight wins in that debut season, a series of poor recruiting choices meant they didn't play their first final until 2003."

If they believe that us not making finals until 2003 was solely due to "a series of poor recruiting choices" then I have a bridge to sell them.

Thanks for your understanding.

It's the single best piece of analysis I've read about Freo. You captured all of our weaknesses and strengths very well and provided ways that we could improve. It's a breath of fresh air to be honest.

Excellent analysis! I agree with the writer, if Freo die wondering with their ball movement this season, Longmuir is two feet out the door

I usually look forward to watching pre season games, but yesterday I tried wo watch a couple of games on Fox. I watched one quarter if a game and turned off.
The coverage was horrid. Fox showing games in that manner should be ashamed.

While I agree we missed Treacy during that game, had we had Pearce in the team for the game, there is no way we would have lost it.We missed leadership down back.
But Treacy will be a major head ache for all teams this year.He and Amiss will be a great double act.

100%. Hogan and Stringer were match winners in close losses to GWS and Essendon, they don't have a day out if Pearce is in the team.

Exactly. When Essendon got the run on, Pearce would have repelled several of those forward thrust. Marking and holding strong.
evn with the last clearance, had Darcy been there, there was no way that ball would have ever left the centre square.

It is important to note the official preseason games don’t start till Tuesday. With the exception of the All Stars game, all games prior to this are match simulations which are normally just live-streamed on a single non-broadcast camera

Darcy was there. Draper won the last tap. Darcy won the previous tap on the half forward flank that was the lead up to Amiss getting a free kick and goal. Then I think after they got the winning point Draper marked the kick-in before the siren.

It was the last game Darcy played in 2024. If you remember Essendon used 2 rucks and subbed their other ruck Bryan in the 2nd half. And Jackson had to stay forward because Treacy had to go off the ground in the last quarter.

Actually just had a look at the last 2 minutes of that game again and Treacy has come back on the ground at the end as you see him talking after Amiss kicks the goal - but he didn't play the following week. Maybe came on to give a message - and another thing I notice is that Cox is in the forward line when Amiss gets that free kick to level the score, but then is in the backline for the next bounce.

On that last kick-in where Ryan kicks in, he takes territory and Darcy is signalling in front of Essendon's Draper but because there's someone (Stringer) running at Ryan he's closed down and he bombs it and hooks the kick and Draper pushes off and reads it quicker.

Just generally there's a lot of mistakes in the vision of that last 2 minutes starting with Sharp kicking it OOTF - More mistakes than just wondering how we lost the final contest at the centre bounce. These mistakes probably happen all through the game but you lose by a point and the focus goes on one lost moment.

Geez that vision is an indictment on Darcy. I get it's the last 2 minutes of a game but apart from tap the ball he gave absolutely nothing.

That was the general vibe of it. I was really just checking the details about who was there at the last contest and spotted a few things, and my commiserative tone won't change history.

Yeah - crazy vision in hindsight. I know Collingwood pretty much won a flag by owning those situations - but we need to be able close a game when the ball is stuck in our forward half, a goal up with a minute to go. Non negotiable.
