I just really don't think it's that scandalous.

I'd like to know why he got the sack considering the state of our injury list, but him going to WC is nothing more than the more convenient job opportunity. He was linked to GWS before that and was planning on moving interstate before eagles approached.

Why would you leave to go to West Coast and not out east somewhere?

Why would you uproot your life and family to move interstate when you can get the same money for a lot less hassle?
Could’ve just stayed with us though.

With the whole off field salary cap, he wouldn’t be getting much more at West Coast then with us

There's a post in the injury thread claiming he wanted to stay with us but we didn't renew his contract.

I wonder if occasional mismanagement of players like Young, Darcy, Pearce a few times contributed to this. Quite a few instances of rushing players back just to be re-injured.

Regardless he managed to have us mostly injury free at the end of the season which is no mean feat. Hoping this means we have somebody else lined up.

Given they are advertising on seek, it’s probably not already agreed. Albeit a short 2 week window of advertising may mean they have someone in mind.

Not worth going crazy over and people are looking at the big picture too much. Sure he did a great job over his entire tenure but when you look at the now (this season) - key personnal weren't right (as backed up by CD) and we barely saw Fyfe and Walters in their final seasons. Not ideal at all.

If thats the case why did Joe Brierty say we have only just advertised it and will start interviews in 3 weeks. Surely you find someone first?

You can have good candidates internally while also covering all bases and listening to external candidates.

I don’t get it really but it is what it is

I get that you can't exactly say "Merriman was rubbish" in his farewell article, but it's only become more clear now that this "mutual decision" is a lot more club-centred than Merriman-centred. Fans deserve at least an inkling as to why we decided to go in a different direction.

The one thing about Merriman is that the players dont look as strong in the core as some other clubs. I know we are younger than most but i though GC looked stronger than we did and it certainly played out that way

Really not much of a scandal, we didn't want to keep him at the club, he planned to move interstate before West Coast gave him an offer that was good enough to stay in Western Australia.

Why do you believe everything they say to the public? They are not obligated at all to tell the entire story.

Good point. We noticeably don't swivel off tacklers as much as opposition do.

Why do you/we "deserve" that?

I would think what the club is doing is pretty normal for any job. Decide you want change, move someone on, then find the replacement.

For example, coaches get sacked and then the proper interview process follows.

We advertised positions like senior coach and list manager in the past.

It's part of going through the process even if they already know their preferred applicant.

Same reason fans typically get some level of explanation when a player is traded out, delisted or leaves in free agency. Or when the head coach is gone. Complete transparency is impossible. But the opposite makes fans feel disconnected from the club. So clubs find a middle ground.

I don't think it's a stretch to put a role that fronts up to the fanbase on a weekly occurrence with the injury updates in that same bracket.
