Gold coast is a poo hole. Reasonable beaches flanked by suburb and autobarn. The AFL may do everything they can to get them there but they will go to water if they make it. Not concerned about meeting them in a grannie. I wouldn't be putting a gorilla on the pies to win that one, I'd put the house.
The rest are a different issue. Most of all I am concerned about Geelong. That mob knows how to win grand finals and don't need to be the favourite to do it. They are a BP. I only watch the pies so wondering what is posters opinions on where they are at?

Hawks - Have a back six capable of embarrassing anyone. Impey is just killing it at the moment.
Bris - probably the weakest due to injuries at the wrong time of the year. That said, they can do damage with Dunkley and McCluggage and the Big O is coming back
GC - that engine room is scary. As we've been twice in two years, just when you think you have control, Anderson just waltzes out of the middle and kicks the easiest and quickest of goals.
Cats - A tough prospect. Their talls are as skilled as most mids and they have Danger who always seem to be untacklable by our backs.

I've done the fixture analysis and I can't see any way that we can play ourselves in the finals. So I am not worried about facing the Pies.

In week 1, 5 of the teams kicked roughly the same score - around 80 which is typical in finals.

The outliers

Cats and Hawks - both went over 100
Crows - just over 50.

Hawks benefitted from an amazing Q1 where they kicked 7. So it's a bit of a one off.
Crows - I think they'll return to scoring more, so will be in the 80 range.

Cats - they can score easily. This worries me. Most teams work so hard to score goals, and it's deflating when the opposition is able to score easily. If you go the Naicos GOAT thread on the main board, someone posted the AA comparison between top 8 and bottom 10 teams.

J Cameron is the worst - he beats up on the bottom 10 and struggles against the top 8. So this tells me that the Cats are more than just J Cameron when they play the other top 8 teams. We, and the other finalists need to find a way to create a defensive road block.

We have the best backline in terms of scores against - so, yes, we probably are the best chance.

Thanks for such a comprehensive answer. The only one I am not worried about is GC. The GF is such a different "cat", another level. We caught Adelaide out on this on Thursday. Whilst we may not do that to them again I am confident we will do that to GC.

True! I can't help feeling what I feel! You can't pretend not to feel something. I wish all I focused on was the sheer bliss of victory on the last day. I will experience that when the siren sounds and we are in front in the big dance!

Yep. My parents honeymooned on the gold coast 7 decades ago and good on anyone that lives there. Winning a gf requires a lot more than AFL subsidies. They will get there one day but not this year. CFC knows what that requires and this present team is full of players that have that knowledge. That knowledge is sacred, borne from experience and not easily bought. It is not just about players experience, its about the whole club. We can talk tatics and ability but all that is irrelevant when the shizen really hits the fan. GC will not win the flag this year, love if they were our opponent.

Schultz has been really good 2nd half of this season. Goal kicking accuracy still a big issue.
