With Hawks,

Some here laughed when I said earlier this season that Hawks have advantage with invidiual players skills and athleticism. Newcombe, Wedell as just two examples, would beat most Pies players individually because both are athletic, skilled and very vigorous young men. Pies don't have young bulls who would physically and athletically beat these types.... pies only chance is by beating them to space and by taking away their disposal options.... via structure.

Hawks weakness, is they have cocky and over confident players who tend to get their heads down when things don't go their way.

Hawks fast starts are not a coincidence... the earlier they get high... the harder it is to catchup because they have veteran defensive line who can then or intercept deflect entries.... making it a catchup game most of the match if you let then get up early.

Geelong would know this and likely try to get the early punches while clamping down defensively.

If Hawks get a couple of veteran leaders better than Sicily... they could be another dynasty... would absolutely hate that
Both Weddle and Newcombe played in our first meeting where we smashed them.

A defeatist attitude that just ignores the facts. We spanked the Hawks, and lost in a game where extenuating circumstances won’t apply next time.
Against Geel we controlled the game but were unlucky Crisp missed a shot on goal to win the game. They needed a Herculean last QTR by Danger to win.

Who in their right mind rolls over with claims of “bogie teams” given these recent results.
The mentally weak roll over, that’s who.

Fortunately, our coach and players aren’t.

Lol

My point is... Pies aren't guaranteed to play their best if the other team's plan is to stop Pies playing their best and they succeed.

It's not a series.... where the best most balance team win out after multiple games and wins because they adjusted.

This is one off, whomever turns up on the day wins.... it's not guaranteed players play their best at any given time.

My point is, Hawks are getting momentum and if they win against Geelong and Pies are fortunate to beat Suns or Lions, Hawks will have all the confidence and talent to beat the Pies. Hawks are not there by luck...

Edit. Pies need to be perfect to beat a rolling Hawks, Lions, Suns or Cats...
Can't rely on luck and hope other team has a bad day.
Why are you dismissing Coll getting on a roll.
Your narrative coincides with pre finals talk. Every thing changed last week.

I can't believe Nicks went with the "if we had Rankine, we would have won our last 2 games", sounds like my under 16s coach.
Did he really say that? They were defeated before they ran out on the ground if that was their thinking.

Nah mate, Hawks have owned us once the 1970s. The numbers tell the real story.
Which players from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc are currently playing for the Hawks.
Do you think Fly is looking for a Time Machine to change this history, because he thinks it’s the only way to give us a chance.

These are irrelevant and meaningless narratives.

All the talk prior to our first matchup this year, was about how hawks were our bogie team and we always found a way to turn in bad performances against them, and then look what happened.

The boys took that to heart and turned in a surgical performance to belt them.

If we are good enough to make it to the GF and do indeed face the Hawks, we definitely will have a hunter mindset .

Reflective of their collective weakness and inability to meet the moment.
A mentally tough side would go over to S.A without N.Buckley and win what many thought was the unwinable. And Rankine is no Nathan Buckley

Good , let them keep thinking that one player will magically fix their entire midfield issues, their poor coaching issues, their poor decision making and execution.

They will falter in similar fashion next year with the 'if only rankine was here's mindset.

In finals it’s a different game

We have rarely played Hawthorn in finals ( I believe we are 2-1 with the last two being wins…the 2011 prelim and before that the famous 1977 second semi where Carman got suspended and missed two grand finals)

Never met in a GF

The Hawks don’t own us. Even this season we are 1-1

I can't believe anyone gave Adelaide a chance. Their season ended when they realised that they are average and that was when they used that ridiculous flood against us a few weeks ago. Heavy flooding is a sign of weakness in modern football and their midfield is non existant. GC will beat Brisbane tonight and we will play hawthorn in the Gf. I could feel the whole of Geelong collectively squeeze their butt cheeks when the siren went last night. BTW, the Pies will smash hawthorn in the GF
Sorry.

Edit… I underestimated their mental weakness.

You'd have to be pretty silly to go onto an opposition board and comment the way they did - see screenshot. Result...they were suspended lol.
It took every fibre of my being to resist the temptation to post one of : 6-0,6-0,6-0 tennis score line ; the Richmond theme song lyrics or a picture of their power stance photoshopped into an airport waiting line with a finals exit terminal.

Pathetic Nicks. If your team is that reliant on one player, and you seemingly can't win or even put up a fight in games without them, then you have much bigger problems at the club than just someone being unavailable on match day.

Hawks belted us and Melbourne and then were heading into their final game against brisbane with all the momentum, and what happened?

They lost to a good side in brisbane.

Hawks can be broken down by a good coaching staff and a smart experienced team that can exploit their inherent weakness.

They have beaten a gws team that has developed a habit of choking in finals and a crows team that gave up.

If you watched the game last night, the crows left so many goals scoring opportunities on the table because of their atrocious execution and decision making. A Collingwood or Geelong would have cut them up last night.
Cats will dismantle the Hawks

Nicks is the new Kenny. Crows fans want him gone despite massive over-achievement. They have a bottom 4 midfield. Getting that list to minor premiers was unreal.

I agree re the achievement. It’s the finals performance I was critical of - and not just the team but also the club in how they went about it. A lot to learn from the clubs who know what to do in finals.

Separately, but related, I found it interesting the way Fly talked about finals this year. He kept emphasising the different seasons of footy, starting the season again in September, etc etc. While some were critical of him for emphasising that we’d qualified - was it after 14 wins? - he kept this messaging up all year. The difference between the H & A season, and the finals.

The Crows, in contrast, and now in hindsight, seemed to have missed this point.

The bogie only exists in the minor round. In the finals we aggressively swipe that bogie from underneath our nose, and then grind it into the dirt.
