Not only that, wins by clubs at the bottom of the 8 (+ just outside) make it harder and harder for Carlton to make finals

I think there are still questions on the Cats. However, with Smith now pairing with Holmes, their outside run, at pace, is a difference maker. We're not strong in that aspect and it can cause us problems.
Brisbane are cooked, look at the draw they have, they have by far the hardest draw and the AFL deliberately has them with the bye as the last group to destroy them. 6 of their last 9 are against top 8 sides, and they have to travel to WA as well. They burnt a lot of petrol early in the season to come from behind, like us last year.

Agree with that, but the H&A is all about qualifying as high as possible. I'll take the Brisbane loss and extra top spot cushion.
I'll worry about specific finals matchups when the time comes. No matter how dangerous a particular team is, it's possible we don't even face them in finals.

True although part of qualifying is locking in the double chance/week off and hoping some better teams miss out on top four. I’d prefer Adelaide in the top four for example to the giants.
Improving our chances for top two/home final certainly doesn’t hurt either.
