Smith still on restricted training with knee soreness

Ollie Henry running laps today due to ongoing back soreness
I can't see Smith making it to Brisbane they will hold him back and debut him at Kardinia the following week v Freo is my guess.

I don't mind if they are cautious like this. Even if he manages just 18 games this season, at 24 years of age, we need him to be durable for the next decade.

If Smith misses, and if Bruin does too (no word from the club on his injury prognosis), then I think we’ll have to abandon the Danger forward experiment as he’ll be needed in the guts. As for who plays as the seventh forward, not sure?

Yeah I guess the CBAs we saw in the scratch match with SDK tapping to Atkins, Bowes, and Knevitt get repeated?

😱

I unironically think that Danger has less scoreboard impact (i.e. combined goals and assists) when he's close to goal than he does when he's playing through the middle. This seems like a terrible idea to me.
I suspect (or maybe hope) that it doesn’t swing too far to “permanent” forward. I would hope a Dusty type strategy where he gives us a lift in CBA but happy for him then to drift and play as a forward.

Hi Cats. Has Miers role changed? Has good possession numbers?

Nope.
He's doing what he's been doing this past few years, going well and truly under the radar.

Meanwhile, Cats supporters know all too well just how important he's become.

Some would have him as the barometer of this team and it's hard to argue with that 👍

Here's some bad photoshop to explain my position on the matter

What sort of concerns re Ollie?
Back = hammy. Not a tear - but awareness

To be clear I do NOT know anything specific.

Just concerned 4 days out from the match..

Hopefully all precautions and he has done enough to be confident to play - I feel he is really important for our forward line

I thought there was a suggesting his issue could have been related to marking contest from the Essendon clash and been on the receiving end of knee to the back

It could be…this is one I don’t have any specific knowledge of other than he did limp off and early thoughts was that is was hammy awareness. When I see back it doesn’t make me feel better…

But if it was a knock in the back as you suggest then that is much better - we need him to be right for the game

I know nothing, just going off what was suggested in that match thread based when it was noted he didn't seem to be moving great later in the match

Better to talk in terms of combined goals/assists, because he's often a better creator than goal scorer when he roams forward.

52 goal assists over the past 3 seasons. That's where he's collecting the footy around 80 metres out (either from midfield or half forward). So I'd rather him as an advanced rather than deep forward when he rotates that way.
I don't think we're factoring in his forward pressure. He'll be like Rohan on steroids.

Wow, that 2017 season - 45 goals averaging 30 touches.

Easily one of the greatest individual seasons ever statistically.
Broke like 16 records in the process….

And yet Dusty got all the accolades…which shows people care more about narratives than physical evidence.
