Cuthrie cooked (probably retired)
Conway medium term
Ivisic a while with syndesmosis
Mannnagh Bruhn and Martin should all be 4 weeks away Max by the looks of.
Not too bad for this time of year.
When did bruhn ans Mannagh imjure themselves??

Conway is just struggling to handle AFL conditioning loads through his lower limb which is common for a young ruck.

Nice little movement fact:
Running places 2-3 times the body weight in force through our legs.
Jumping (rucks forte repetitively) depending on the height you are landing from can place between 5-10 times your body weight in force through the legs.

This is why young rucks get injured so often and have lower limb and lower back issues.

It takes time to build up their strength and conditioning to be able to handle the repetitive load they place on their bodies.

The gangly thin ones may find it a easier transition, but the bigger heavier ones need to be eased in over years

Geelong has been managing a stress related injury in Mannagh's right foot over the pre-season - they've been ramping up his training over recent weeks, though he's unlikely to play in our round 1 match

Bruhn had his left ring finger heavily taped during our hitout against Hawthorn - they didn't really play him in the guts during that match, so may have been about seeing how he'd go in a match situation & getting a run into his legs. If there was discomfort or he felt it was impacting his attack on the football, they'd obviously be looking at their options to treat the injury

Listened to the SEN podcast where Gerard Whateley interviewed Chris Scott. It was recorded a few days ago before the decision to reschedule the match. Worth a listen, but as expected, not much is given away.
My main take aways (from memory).
SDK - main role will be defense, but times in the ruck and even forward. He didn't say how the split of defense/ruck is going to look like though. More pertinent, Gerard didn't ask the obvious - who is the first ruck?
Jack Martin - slow approach, but if all goes well, he will be in contention for a senior game sometime between Round 4 and 6.
Stewart - will again spend time in the middle.

I don't disagree on what you are saying re young bodies but my worry is for every ruck that becomes durable there's 10 Dawson Simpson's that never do.

On mannagh he missed a lot of training pre Christmas due to a foot injury. Is now catching his loads up. Tanner is just the finger injury we saw strapped a couple of weeks ago.

Probably back for the Brisbane game is my guess.

He'll miss Freo, and they won't risk him if he's underdone on a hard and fast deck at Marvel.

Nightmare after coming back from a lower leg injury if you don't have the fitness under your belt.

I think we'll see Mannagh running around in the Hoops next Saturday, just not at KP - rather it'll be this match

Saturday, March 15
Geelong Cats vs Port Melbourne (Deakin University Waurn Ponds, 10:30am)

Basically the only team structure question that matters, the rest is pretty straightforward 🤦‍♂️

Well if that's true (and I almost never believe what CS says) then I don't expect to see much of COS just yet.

Is mannagh out of contract? My bet he will be hoping to be a main stay in the best 23 this year.

In that interview on SEN Scott said he didn’t think Mannagh needed match fitness or to play in the vfl before getting in the side. Can’t say if he’ll play round 1 but Scott was clearly speaking of him as a player who’s a lock for the team when fit.

He certainly sounds like Sdek is a highly valued player … but with Blitz niot getting any younger I hope COS gets some games this year.

He's out of contract end of this season and I have him best 22 playing 20+ games this season, only reason for taking a conservative option is because he's coming back from a foot stress injury

We've been known to take the conservative approach with players returning from injury, so playing saying half or three quarters in the VFL this week wouldn't surprise me

His age ..id think he is the type that might get approached. Would not blame him at all..he has to make hay etc so he cant afford to have a bad luck injury year.

I thought there was talk of Mannagh getting a one year extension late last season.

Not sure if it happened now that you say he is OOC at the end of this season.

Its a hard balance to get right with a athletic but still bulky young ruck like conway.

Both bones and also muscle grow in response to load and force, its a tightrope act to get right.

I would almost argue their first season as rucks should be soent with half games and alot of work in the gym and building up km’s. Similar year two with an increase in game minutes.. Then year 3 onward full matches at AFL level if capable.

I agree. Certainly for a half. And Martin too…

It is almost worth going for a watch

Start the day there before heading to KP - could be an option

Is it just me, or is there a sense of 'meh' over the start of the season??

I'm usually as keen as anyone to see the start of a new footy season, with an eagerness to see what the season holds for the GFC, but I've found myself really struggling to be excited for the footy in the games so far ......

Probably got something to do with our game being canned, and the whole Round Zero thing.....maybe my sense of excitement will fire up when I finally see us take the field 🤔

I came over to Sydney and attended both games
Meh is well put, just no atmosphere

I'm hoping so, I've been pretty distracted renovating a house with 3 kids and have barely had time to gaze into Bailey Smith's flowing mullet let alone engage in list management politics.
