'You have to pace yourself': Lions in no rush to bring in injured stars

Chris Fagan says the Lions are looking at the bigger picture and are in no rush to get players back from injury in time for Opening Round

Interesting to hear interviews with both Zorks and Kai today, they've both been asked who were the standouts at Friday's intra club game, they both reeled off a whole heap of names but neither of them mentioned Conor McKenna.

So either (a) I don't have a clue what I'm talking about (highly possible) or (b) it's intentional misdirection to hide from other clubs our plans for him in 2025.

But we'd never do that would we!

Payne’s first decent pre-season for a while ? Might go up a level

Berry in the same boat. First preseason in a long time that he hasn't had some sort of shoulder surgery to get over. Mckenna fitter this preseason. Charlie also in better condition, no dental surgery. No hand/wrist problems for Dev. Bailey having a fitter start as well. I think ZZ had an injury delayed start to last season too.

Remember when everybody said Sharpie was a total standout.

The reality is that any good player who has had an uninterrupted preparation , or even moreso an interrupted one , is going to do everything he can to prevent injury in practice games. Most of them just go through the motions.

So it's the chance for those who need to impress to show what they've got in a bruise free situation.

Answerth seems to go the same whether it's a practice drill or a real match .

Who were the top five? Any of the top four teams? Because a comment like that means nothing if the top teams with missed games due to injury were the bottom four plus Carlton.

I couldn't find the article but I remember seeing one that broke it down between games lost over the squad and then games lost for players in the best 23.

We were in 3rd or 4th of players in best 23.

In recent years this kind of stuff has been fine. Remember last year when Logan was mentioned as having a big preseason? Turned out pretty well.

It's only a bit of a furphy when there's a Lions article released pumping someone up. That's when they are in trouble.

To be fair, I pumped up Logan last year which I'm happy to claim as a win, but the year before I also pumped up Gunston and that blew up in my face rather spectacularly. So I can really only claim a 50% strike rate up to now. Come on Conor, give me a leg up ay

I'm pumping Beecken since you nicked Conor.

Last year in preseason i had Lloyd slightly over Morris so got that wrong.
Morris has been great, and Lloyd was actually very ordinary early in the VFL season.
He got better as the year went on, but they changed his position a fair bit. Forward, defense, wing, mid.
Now he has a back issue so an interrupted preseason.
I will be interested in where they play him this year when fit.
He has a lot to do to break into the AFL side but hope he has a better year in 2025.

Due to all the injuries i think we will have to wait till the Crows/Suns/Pies preseason games to get a better guide

Reads the flight of the ball so well and will get better at the body work with a bit of size and experience.

I'm a bit of a wrap for Lloyd on what I've seen and he's another one who could come out of the blue and make a Senior player.

Unfortunate time to be injured when everyone else is but he's got plenty of time and I think the club regards him highly. Probably higher than they regarded Logan before last preseason. The look on Fages face when Logan started taking speccies over Harris in that first practice match was priceless.
