What about Finlayson as a break glass option (replace Burgess)
I wondered about him instead of burgess. At least Finlayson has shown he is AFL standard

Min contract with heavy playing/performance based contract. Clearly he has been very soft and uncompetitive and that’s the real issue. Whether his shocking personal circumstances contributed to this I don’t know but at his best - 2022 and 2023 he looked like a world beater at times as forward (almost 40 goals) who also rucked - he would be an excellent depth player and still has a few years left.

Yep, let's in invite in destabilisation into a group that clearly has it's eye on the prize and risk blowing it all up.

One wrong step by any player.... Have you forgotten how the media treat any controversy at AFC. Any "sniff" of a story ...

JUH was enough of a distraction for the dogs. I can't believe people would even think that's going to end well at AFC.

Yeah especially when that exact strategy has been a very important part of teams premiership success over the past 25 years. But what would they know?

Which he will get back under Burgo

Clarry has ADHD and I know for a fact being married to someone with it and a child with it, they can get a hyper/laser like focus on something
Thus why Clarry found himself in trouble with substances, they have an addictive personality

He wants to get back to his best, can see Burgo giving him a program and Clarry being hyper focused and going through pre-season getting shredded
And he knows that there will be some big provisos to a move here, having that hyper focus on success and fitness again will help keep him on track

I really hope we can get a deal done, will be an absolute bargain
Problem is rumoured 1.5m salary heavily back ended. Dees wouldn’t pay more than 30% of that so we are still up for 1m per year and for the player he has been the last 2 years welll….he isn’t top 50, or even 100, in the league

Agree if we got the old Oliver back would would take the chance but it’s just a massive risk with his mental health issues, contract length and dollars

Destabilising? He hasn't been at the club to destabilise anything, and in his fours years prior to this didnt have any issues.

Do you know why he isnt at the club? Has nothing to do with bad behaviour or issues within the team, he is under an AFL mental health management plan due to depression. He has been admitted to a mental health facility, has had issues with suicidal thoughts, and to the point he didnt trust himself to even drive his car.

Let's not try to marginalise people with mental health issues.

Sounds perfect for elite competition where performance matters, where do we sign.

Dees will pay a % of the deal.

Would be a salary dump to some extent, he is keen to get back under Burgo and in peak condition.
ANB been talking it up

Can see if it ends up happening him thriving tbh
That coming from a reliable inside source mate? Someone, perhaps yourself, also was saying this a mth or 2 ago.

It’s the exorbitant contract that scares me. And the potential adverse impact on our best ever culture which Oliver has shown the ability to really **** things up and cause division within the club (many other Dees players wanted him gone in 2023/2024)

It’s always the same old farts on here saying they don’t want a player because “drugs” or “bad behaviour”. Stengle, Brad Crouch, Oliver, Ugle-Hagan etc. Even if it could possibly make the team better. They’d be happy with a team full of Van Berlos to watch every weekend of their mundane life.

You can almost smell their voting history.

There are always risks involved in achieving success.

Oh, say hi to the chaplain at church for me on Sunday.
It's always the same old people who want to bring a rehabilitation project in when we need to be focusing on a premiership.

Gibbs was such a bet, it cost us good picks for no result. At least he just moved on.

How about a development project? Someone who could play a role and make our best 22 better.

Yeah especially when that exact strategy has been a very important part of teams premiership success over the past 25 years. But what would they know?

There is a fair leap from past ‘bad eggs’ like Stengle or Oliver to JUH though. He’s the first that hasn’t made it back and spent an entire season on mental health leave. If the Dogs are allowed to sack him and not pay him out, I’d be interested. But if he’s got $900k guaranteed for next season, what would be the point?

When did a team in the window bring in someone with the levels of trouble of JUH.

And when did the media give the Crows any leeway? 5 or so players say slurs, when a Crows player does it its a massive media blow up.

The camp stuff should have been over after the sackings. But it got hauled out at the media's convenience over the next 2 when we were trying to right the ship... ffs they even brought it up again with the Rankine thing.

The COVID preseason camp thing that derailed the start of our rebuild. Media bayeing for 500k fines and the loss of draft picks. Buckley breaches midseason which could have actually stopped the season. Nothing to see here.

Bringing in a "bad boy" is some sort of footy forum fantasy that people keep in their WB to trot out every time we are within a sniff of success.

How about we do what we did last year and actually have had amazing results? Ie do what actually worked.

yes was myself

Sticking point will be % of deal picked up by Demons

JUH in Adelaide would be bad for him and bad for us.

Think of the relatively small indiscretions that make the news in Adelaide over (then) relatively low profile players in Jarman Impey's scooter ride, or a young Josh Worrell blowing over the limit the morning after a big night.

JUH comes to Adelaide the microscope would be turned up 10 fold and every nasty bout of flatulence would be in the paper.

Can’t see him being a bargain, Demons don’t have cap issues and if they’re going to discard quality players and head further down the ladder, they’ll be looking to maximise value at the trade table. He’ll either cost is in salary or picks, we won’t be getting a discount on both.

I guess it depends on their list management strategy and where they view the list post Goodwin. I could definitely see them doing a firesale now (a la Richmond) and trying to get as much draft capital as they can before the compromised drafts begin.

It's an interesting one, but the talent JUH has is absolutely worth a massive gamble IMO.

If we are honest we need another top-shelf mid. Oliver could be that player. Seems to have sorted himself out.

Lol

He hasn't. But doesn't have to, he was still doing the same thing when he was playing his best footy. Stengle never changed and still made AA. Plenty of other players up to shenanigans, the key is not to be caught ;).

If we are chips infor another top end mid, we should be right in the ear of zac merrett. Essendond are in a funk and they are a mile off from being a finals side and Merrett is 30.could they be prepared to allow him to go to get picks and a player?
Just don't think he's realistic. Essendon would have some good side deals for him.

We need a next level mid. Thats a given. Even with Rankine our midfield lacks a missing piece. That was the excitement of NAS, fill that gap. Merrett would be a good get.

Ok thanks but to clarify….someone reliable within club saying we are still after him?

Agree re % but can you really imagine any team taking 500k of a players salary (even when it’s 1.5m). Seems just too much IMO. And if they don’t take that much no way would I be paying Oliver 1.1m+ based on last 2 years output and overall risk to club culturally

Oliver is a player we should be going after. only 28! If there is a star midfielder that is half considering leaving their club, we should be front of queue. We need the cherry on the cake mid. Dawson and Rankine cant do it all and Soligo is more that 4th rotating depth mid and Draper isnt ready.

It's a bit concerning that we haven't signed up Zac Taylor or Hugh Bond yet.
I hope they are at the club next year
Plenty of other players to go before these two
Can definitely see them heading elsewhere if they are given a best 22 guarantee

Will be harder for Taylor to get games next year, after adding Ah Chee

Yes

Same individual who gave me Rankine mail that I shared here and team selections mail when they hear it.

So I think it is certainly live

But we have learnt to keep cards close to our chest over last couple of years, so doubt it gets too much public attention unless it is looking likely to happen
