I think it's possible. If he signs a 2 year contract at 300k for example it means in the second year that's what he's locked into.

If he comes out next year and becomes a midfielder all of a sudden that second year could be 550-600.

If I was Taylor I’d absolutely take a guaranteed 2nd year at 300k knowing that if that happens then I can bank that 500-600 pay the year after as opposed to being 2026 Dowling who falls out of the 23 and is at risk of delisting/less and i expect the downside of what he’d earn In that case if far higher than the likely upside

I mean it's an interesting point that we don't really know. I think as a league we need to talk about making player salaries visible, at the moment it feels like some clubs play by different rules.

Here's my take on where we sit prior to Free Agency, Trade & First list Lodgements prior to the Draft.
Where we sit is 33/3 with 2 out of contract.

Mandatory to have 3 List spots & 3 which we can trade or take to the Draft.

I would like us be creative with our SANFL signings. 4 Marquees in 2025 (Madgen, Drury, Strachan & McPherson).
I would be keen on either of the 2 delisted SA 21 year old Fwd/Rucks in Will Verrall or Harry Lemmey save a Rookie List spot & see if they train over pre season and deserve a list spot. Also there is the Undrafted 18 year old to replace Atkinson

Elephant in the room is Tex. He remains our 3rd Best Key Forward and I would bring him on as a Rookie in 2026. It would mean leaving us options for Free Agency/Trade Period.

He's a borderline player who may get pushed out of our best 23 this off-season, and he would have loved the security of knowing he had two more years guaranteed in his career.

Players are realistic. He knows he's playing to have a future in this league.
