My guess is he doesn't leave this year, but will be about as hot a FA target as they come next year as a 26 year old. TBH there's a reality he joins the $2M/year club if he does and has another great season.
$2M pa... more than 2x Dawson.

He's not Daicos!

Are you paying Thilthorpe $3M pa for his new deal?

Let's not go crazy!

We're far better taking a risk on a kid than a 30 year old cast-off from a team like Essendon. We need first team players not top-ups
Agree. We have a good record finding quality key defenders as rookies...
Butts
Murray
Rutten
Bock

Our bid for NWM was double what he was originally being offered by St Kilda.

Absolutely no evidence that what we bid significantly less - all three bids were high and St Kilda chose to finally come over the top with a massive offer, probably close to triple what they originally offered
No, we had the lowest pa, but longest term.

Danger is the perfect example of being smarter in how he plays to have longevity.
Example of how we extend Dawson's career... later in his career.

I agree with all of this, but does Nicks? History suggest no. Boy I really hope he does anything close to this.
There in lies a major problem with Nicks, as he doesn't now how to manage a squad.

Can't recall many games where Laverde didn't make an almighty mess of things ......continually held his opponent and was pinged at least 2-3 times a match .....was terrible with his defensive positioning

ESS decided to delist him, knowing there was some interest from other Clubs ......you're spot on, Laverde is cooked mentally, and 100% of the blame is on ESS for weekly mis-matches that destroyed his confidence .....plus he's a Draft Horse now

Wouldnt surprise me to see him at Port. They like finding guys like him for depth.

Dawson could be an excellent player we throw 1:1 in the Goal Square Thilthorpe and Fog will attract the interceptors. So almost a perfect option.
Like Dangerfield, Ricciuto & Goodwin, he's very good overhead.

He already had $1.3M/year on the table from the Dons according to Twomey. And thats without a bidding war.

Hitting FA won't drop that number even if he doesnt have the best year. If he goes at an AA level again it will jump considerably for a 26 year old with at least 3 GFs experience.

Plus now the $2M club is a thing, by end of next year I predict there will be at least 3 new members. Maybe more.

Dons are a basketcase, so of course they are going to offer overs.

No way will we be offering him 2x more than our highest paid player.

That is insanity!!

I never said it wasn't. But thats the type of pay range his manager is starting negotiations from now (and he damn sure won't settle at that level either).

If we want him, get used to him being our highest paid player. And by a wide WIDE margin.

Nah, not even his manager would be entertaining $2m pa.

You are not even in the ballpark.

Complete insanity!

Would love doing business with you lol.

TBH I think our recruiting team value targets precisely like you do. Which sadly is why I think we are a 0.0% chance of landing Zac Bailey.

Regardless of what number his agent negotiates, it will be way too rich for the blood of the decision makers at our club.

They could rotate Curtin and Fog onball
NFI why they haven't built his tank enough to go into the midfield for spurts as that bull

He played there in his u/18's
Unorthodox approach but not insane thinking.

Fog can have cold periods and a burst or two might help get him involved and break that cold streak.

The recent news about how Dodoro is still apparently in the shadows trying to pull strings kinda makes me a bit more sympathetic to Merrett wanting out at this point.

If Dodoro is still behind the scene's, then this Merrett trade just got exponentially harder for Hawthorn to execute.
No, he's not ....I can state that as fact

Yeah I wouldn't be chasing Laverde because he's just not really what we need. He was drafted as a midfielder/wingman who was super athletic. The KPD was a conversion that happened given his athleticism but failure to figure it out upfield. He was never a 1 on 1 lockdown guy. He was better as that hybrid guy who could go with the more mobile 2nd-4th talls or quicker smalls. We've got plenty of them.

If we want to chase KPD depth, I'd rather look at guys like Dougal Howard, Sam Frost or Caleb Graham. Maybe Jacob Blight as a DFA.

Pending a Petracca and Ah Chee inclusion, as well as a big pre-season from Draper and Edwards, I think we should be lining up with:

FBM.MichalanneyM.KeaneJ.Worrell
HBW.MileraN.MurrayM.Hinge
CD.CurtinJ.SoligoI.Cumming
HFANBR.ThilthorpeB.Keays
FFJ.RacheleD.FogartyJ.Dawson
RR.O'BrienC.PetraccaI.Rankine
IntJ.PeatlingC.Ah CheeC.Edwards
S.DraperR.Laird
EmerL.PedlarZ.TaylorH.Bond

From the SF
Out: Smith, Pedlar, Taylor, Berry, Walker
In: Rankine, Petracca, Edwards, Draper, Ah Chee

This to me gives us a lot more options across the board and provides a lot more forward moving players.
There are 5 pure defenders in Michalanney, Keane, Woz, Muz and Laird
There are 5 running defenders/wingers who can push up the ground if required in Junior, Hinge, Curtin, Cumming and Edwards
There are 5 pure forwards in ANB, Thilthorpe, Keays, Fog and Ah Chee
And then there are 7 players who can all play mid and roll forward if requried in Soligo, Dawson, Petracca, Rankine, Rachele, Peatling and Draper.
With those 7 players, there are 35 different midfield combinations that we could look at and allow us to pull different levers as we need,

I would look at having 5 that roll off, trained down depending on the type that we need for the certain time of game:
CompeteControlSpeedHuntUse
SoligoPetraccaRankineDawsonRankine
PetraccaDawsonPeatlingPeatlingPetracca
RankineSoligoDraperSoligoDawson

And then just general rotation with the others as required.

This provides us with more balance, speed, scoring and our defense was top 2 for most the year, so hoping for natural progression to take its course there. Dawson to the forward line in absence of Tex (pending retirement) and swapping regularly with Petracca and Rankine so that we always have an A+ player at the footy and close to home.

Can we put this in the appropriate thread. Spamming this thread when there is a perfectly reasonable Round 1 thread is gross
