List Mgmt. 2025 Premiership(s) List Making and Trading

Just running through the list of Out of Contract / FA players in 2025 and here’s the ones I think we should be most active in trying to bring to the club (in reality, getting more than 1-2 of them will not happen):

1) Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (OOC)
This is ridiculously obvious, but sadly probably a pipe dream now that F Callaghan has turned down the Saints $17 million offer. Still, I’d be putting big money on the table here. If he plays at half back he displaces one of Laird or Milera, and if he plays on a wing he displaces Sholl. A huge upgrade. A player with “multiple AA” written all over him and obviously from SA. Would be an enormous get.

2) Ed Richards (FA)
Again, this does not seem likely, but who knows, maybe the Dogs devolve into a shitshow this year (culminating in Bevo being fired) and we end up sneaking into the 8, leading a guy like Richards to really look at all available options to head across to a club on the rise (or maybe those things don’t happen, which would decrease this to closer to a 0% chance of happening). I love Richards as a player, and think he could add a lot to our midfield mix.

3) Bobby Hill (OOC)
A real list need for us now that Rankine is going to spend at least 60% of his game time in the midfield is that lightning quick, electric, highly skilled small forward. Enter Bobby Hill. Has proven he can do it on the biggest of stages too with a Norm Smith under his belt. Cap squeeze at the Pies perhaps?

4) Lloyd Meek (OOC)
With the inevitable delisting of both Burgess and Strachan, we need to bring not one, but 2 ruckmen to the club this coming offseason, and Meek is the pick of the uncontracted bunch in terms of “ready to play in Rd 1 2026” for mine. Sam Draper is overrated beyond belief in some circles. There’s another OOC ruckman later in this list that I’d be happy to take if Meek wasn’t willing to relocate to Adelaide, but I do like him.

5) Jeremy Sharp (FA)
I never hear a lot about this guy but most times I watch him play I end up impressed. A genuine wing option who I feel could be an instant upgrade on Sholl. Has a powerful left boot and could be a dangerous player for us when delivering the ball inside 50 to the Thilthorpe / Fog combo. Cap squeeze is on at Freo too.

6) Nick Bryan (OOC)
This is the Essendon ruckman I would be targeting, not Draper. Has some tricks and a lot of upside IMO.

7) Kane Farrell (FA)
There is never a high probability of any first choice player crossing over from Port, but it would be ridiculous not to enquire to see if he’s open to it, especially if Port’s season heads downhill. An absolutely LETHAL kick - one of the absolute top tier in the comp. Imagine Farrell delivering it to Thilthorpe. Would be a match made in heaven.

8) Blake Howes (OOC)
Potentially a bit left-field here but assuming we miss out on Wanganeen-Milera, Sharp and Farrell, I would be looking to pick at the Demons carcass and extract Howes, who to me shapes as a valuable outside type for the next 8-10 years. Has some aerial ability that a lot of wing types lack too.

9) James Worpel (FA)
It can’t hurt to ask, especially with all the flashier shiny toys Hawthorn are going to have on big bucks moving forward. Worpel has only just turned 26 in January (hands up if you thought he was older) and would be a significant upgrade in the midfield for us. Does it seem like anyone of note will leave the Hawks though? No. I just see this being more of a “5% chance to come to the Crows” type situation than someone like LDU who would be “0.5% chance to come to the Crows” so I’m including him.

10) Brad Close (OOC)
Would be a handy “true half forward” connector type, and possesses some surprising speed. From SA, a premiership player, and would add something different to our already dangerous front half. Wouldn’t be shocked if he gets squeezed out at Geelong.

Others considered:
  • Leek Aleer
  • Luke Beecken
  • Finlay Macrae
  • Reef McInnes
  • Liam Reidy
  • Max Knobel
  • Josh Goater
  • Marcus Windhager
  • Mitch Owens
  • Angus Sheldrick
  • Brandon Starcevich
  • Logan Morris
  • Charlie Spargo
  • Lachie Charleson
  • Tom Brown

Do not want a bar of:
  • Sam Draper
  • Jesse Motlop
  • Ash Johnson
  • Brayden Maynard
  • Jamie Elliott
  • Ben Hobbs
  • Neil Erasmus
  • Malcolm Rosas
  • Peter Ladhams
  • Caleb Poulter
  • Anyone over 30

I didn’t include any of the following despite them being genuine high quality players who are either FA or OOC, because I just don’t even think there’s a 1% chance they would come to us for a variety of reasons:

  • Luke Davies-Uniacke
  • Finn Callaghan
  • Chad Warner
  • Matt Rowell
  • Tom De Koning
  • Andrew Brayshaw
  • Oscar Allen
  • Ollie Dempsey
  • Sam De Koning
  • Shaun Mannagh
  • Jase Burgoyne
  • Oli Henry
  • Miles Bergman
  • Bont

Reports St Kilda offered Finn Callaghan a 10 year, $17m deal.

Mustn't be confident of keeping NWM if they're putting that money out there.
They probably haven't got a lot of players on their list who would command big money, not yet anyway.

So i don't think we'd need to read too much into it

Well liked by Scott as he trains hard and then brings it on game day (which would be something a few on our team could aspire to). He loves it at Geelong and they love him, he would have been stoked if we'd have gone after him but we didn't rate him at all.

Tell you what, I liked the look of Oscar Ryan in the practise match yesterday, with a bit of size and experience I think he will be a good player

I wonder how long he will have to wait to get a go.
Way too long I fear.
I like him as well, but we appear to have plenty fighting it out for that small / medium player in the backlines

As much as it looks like an over-offer it highlights that St Kilda are in the market and managers would be ringing them

Like Adelaide last year it can backfire as managers use St Kilda to get better offers for their clients at the club they are at

It also puts internal pressure as managers of players at St Kilda ask for a bigger slice
