Damn, I knew I forgot someone. Yeah Hawthorn and Merrett is a fit too.
Can't imagine Essendon would be too keen on trading their captain, by far best player, and heart and soul of the club to their most hated rivals. I mean they'd be reluctant regardless, but I'd imagine even more so if he wanted to go to Hawthorn. Imagine if we traded Dawson to Port!

Dawson would retire before going to Port.

Dons don't want to lose Merrett but does he want to want to play finals before his career is over? Hawks going hard for him.

its a different situation. Imagine if we drafted Dawson and every year of his career we fail to make finals and during contract negotiations the club promises to find him support and improve club culture. Id imagine by his late 20s Dawson would be pretty pissed off. Yeah in that circumstance I think he would walk to Port. I dont think Essendon have a leg to stand on. If they have made promises and continually failed to fulfill them, then yeah they should look to help Merrett out and find success. I dont think any Essendon supporter could hate on a player who stuck with the club through a decade of shit and refused to leave multiple times.

Hawthorn .. lol

Be almost like someone from either Carlton or Collingwood going the other way

Has worked out ok D'Ambrosio though

I would say Hawks, Pies, Saints, Cats and maybe North will fly up the ladder as the main vic prospects for a premiership. The AFL will conspire against the Saints and North though. They will not want a club who couldnt fill out a suburban amateur league ground getting anywhere near finals.

If it works for them as a club I’m sure they will.

Essendon look like they’re settling in for a bit of a rebuild as they add to their core. I think they’ve started well with Kako, Caddy, Roberts and Clarke but they’ll need to add more high picks to that group.

Merrett has stuck with the club for a long time, but at his age is probably unlikely to be at his best when that team matures and is ready. I also doubt he wants to waste the last 3-4 years of high end footy he has at the bottom.

It’s potentially a win win for both parties if he does leave, and if the Hawks offer the best deal then I think they’ll take it.

If the club actually recognises the ball winning deficiencies in our midfield…

I think we’ll get Oliver. Cal did say on Gettable that ‘if anything happens, it’ll be late’, so not out of the realms of possibility
A clearance beast is a glaring need, hopefully Clarry can adapt to the shite that Rob delivers rather than the silver service he currently gets from Gawn.

The problem is we are dealing with a coach who banished our best inside mid to the twos for 12 months and refused to select him until our season looked like it had blown up in 2023. I honestly dont think he knows what the hell a dynamic midfield needs. Frankly im just surprised Murphy hasnt been a regular.

But you are correct in terms of Oliver. We need to throw everything we can at any quality mid in the comp and just hope we land someone.

I don’t even think Oliver is ‘damaging’, as such. I just think he fills a clear need

Tonight showed we need that extra A grade mid , Oliver would’ve been handy
Every loss for the past few years has shown we need more midfield talent, and every win has papered over the cracks.

Look at the midfield of every premiership team, then look at ours, honestly. There is a huge gulf. It’s been staring us in the face.

Personally I think it'll look pretty different in our CB midfield next year
