It isn't about Max, it is more about we have to give up something good to get something. We are unlikely to FA our way into a dominant mid and drafting one takes time (especially with our penchant to make them do apprenticeships) so if we are going to wiggle one free, it will cost us something decent and we have to be willing to do that.

When do the exit meetings start? We need unprecedented levels of renewal.
Gotta get through a messy Mad Monday which will be reported by every flog and his dog on Tuesday

Id hope we do look at him personally.

But I know when we let him go last time he thought it didnt suit his lifestyle.
Just found this on the swans website.

Husband to Chelsea and father to sons Jimmy and Oscar, and enjoying his full-time role at Unley Oval, Mattner has been often linked with a return to AFL ranks this year. But while he says “you never say never” it’s a definite ‘not now’.

“It’s family-first at the moment, and I enjoy the flexibility that the Sturt job offers. The boys are nine and 13 and are busy with school and their own footy, and it’s nice to have been able to be involved in all that and see nearly every game they’ve played.”

Reckon he’ll be back in the afl in 5 or so years

Sack whoever gave ROB 3 years
I was hopeful ROB had worked out his rucking. Looks like malaise has set in.

Sit him in the SANFL for a few rounds at the start of the year and show him his next 3 years. He's capaable, but he's proven he needs a fire lit under him to perform.

It's time to rejig whatever plan they use in the centre because it's not working. I saw set ups with Dawson in different positions, the Thilthorpe and Curtin in the centre... etc At least with Thilthorpe there was a secondary contest....I think I saw 2 hit outs to advantage from ROB. One was then tackled immiately then Hawthorn one the ball. Another time we defended Hawthorn after their stoppage clearance and there was a ball up. ROB hit it out into space.... we didn't win that. He's doing the ruck attendants no favours and the midfielders are also ineffective.

On top of that the ruck rules change next year.

I was sceptical when VB was appointed. Boys club and all that. But I heard on a radio program he was highly rated at West Coast. He would want to show why he's highly rated very quickly next year.

Recruiting midfielders is a priority. But we also need a strategy that stands up under pressure.

Yeah i think once the kids are a bit older, and he feels like hes achieved all he wants to with his beloved Double Blues.

What hes built down there for us, we are forever grateful.

I dont particularly rate VB, but hes hardly had anything to work with from a midfield perspective

No doubt that's the glaring issue but I dont see how it gets it done in finals.

Need to find a balance. I thought Berry was gonna be the defensive accountability guy, Soligo the inside to out guy and Dawson outside but it looks like Berry fancies himself a silky mid type and Jake just too inconsistent at the moment. Dawson trying to play 3 roles at once.
And Dawson is doing it with a foot injury. He was coy about it in his interview.

Ask yourself this though. Has any midfielder improved under him?
Fair question.

Dawson is an AA midfielder, id say Soligo too though he struggled through the back half of the year. Rankine looked to be on track for an AA spot too before moving forward again late in the year.

Curtin the next one.

Outside of that probably not, but who has he had to work with ??

Not sure anyone wants them.

Probably 1 or 2 of Sholl, Jones and Shoenberg get a mulligan because of the number of people we can realistically bring in. If all 3 are gone, that would be a sign of some irons in the fire.
Sholl will find somewhere. Jones contracted so he'll stay then head home to Tassie.

Harry shouldnt get another gig.

Zac Bailey
Sam Flanders
Mattaes Phillipou

I'd be going hard after these 3.

Not that I want to lose him, but if Butts wants to go and we get paid overs for him, we need to use whatever we receive to get at least one of the above.

Whomever gets Flanders will get a bargain as well. 2/3 would be sensational but also we need to get it done on 2 mids. No excuses.

Hasn’t Phillipou just resigned recently?

Swap him with maybe Powell (if the Butts to North rumours are true)
