If we trade Butts would we consider Liam jones as a pure backup

If we don’t get Petracca I am +1 for doing everything we can to get Sharp.

I am a little worried getting Petracca for an older player wiping us out for the next two drafts. Then TAS compromising the next 3 drafts. Thats 5 years without decent picks/draftees especially if we expect to sit higher on the ladder.

Sharp/Draper will hopefully set up our midfield for the next 10 years.

Of course it’s the challenge for the now vs long term. Neither guaranteed to pay off.
All clubs face the Tassie draft issues, and we're probably better placed than most.

We have 24 players on the list who are 24 or under (including Cotton), 18 of whom played AFL this year, including 5 top 5 picks. Only 10 players not in that list are getting regular AFL games.

This is the time we should be hitting trade/ free agency.

I'd hate to be a bottom 8 team right now, or a top 8 team that hits the cliff. Those teams will struggle.

He’s keen on coaching/development, could be a role for him
He's 35 before the 2026 season starts, if we want depth a 23 year old Jacob Blight would be a far better option and maybe he could even be a keeper for the future.

Ah right didn’t realise he was that old. Thought he was low 30s

jones is cooked. agree on blight. I raised this also. seen him live twice this year and have no idea why they delisted him. pies are courting him. he will likely be gone.

If Petracca decides he wants to go to Gold Coast, and Flanders decides the Saints are his option, Would St Kilda give up 7 for Flanders?

If they do we can seriously ask the questions of Gold Coast to grab 6 or 7 from them for 14 and something else and try and grab Sharp if that's our option and then hope he falls to pick 6. While giving Gold Coast two picks in this drfat to ship off to Melbourne for Petracca.

Just a thought?

Clarry's 'build' is more aligned with our deficiencies as a first possession/extractor type. That he'd come significantly cheaper in trade price and salary is a huge bonus. It feels like a good backup plan.

Issue is, obviously, that peak-Clarry is an incredible player with his ballwinning/hands generational & the most underrated part of his game was his tank which for an inside/extracting mid was in the top tier. This year & last that strength has become a liability. He's cooked early in games, gets killed on transition, and he's far less effective in stoppages as a result - he's out of energy so quickly. Used to be able to just front up, crack in hard, recover from the effort and do it all again.

If he can get that back, I reckon he gets to 95% of what he was. Without it, he's a fringe AFL player. 0 brownlow votes in a season as a full time mid is grim.

Silver for 3 years has been put up as trade option, what is his motivation like at the Dees?? Could his form be linked to that.

We should be having a crack at both he and Trac, my bet is Clarry would be far cheaper

Much sooner give Toby Murray opportunities than Burgess given he is a legitimate chop out ruck option.

I think everyone agrees with that. But it’s not Burgess v Murray, it’s Burgess v a late 3rd/4th round draft pick. Depending on what’s available, and given we’re contending, they may prefer extra depth ahead of a speculative development pick.
