I my opinion, the biggest let down was an image of the Collingwood bench.

I can remember in 2023 listening to Maynard and Pendlebury, talking about how much they like to beat us. That they pride themselves on having the wood over us and getting one up on us. Then, we began to come good and we beat them in the second half of the year. They get themselves up against us. Their best players find another level against us, because we are who they exist to oppose.

Tonight, about halfway through the final term, the camera looked at their bench. Upon it sat Pendlebury, Nick Daicos, and two others with De Goey down the back, and what was written on their faces wasn't glee or schadenfreude but almost disappointment.

They expected us to challenge them, and we simply weren't there. They had all this enmity in their heart, this grand rivalry that the players feel resounding with every heartbeat; and all of it was for nothing.

It's moments like this that truly expose the meaninglessness of sport. We get ourselves up, drag ourselves away from the life we spend the rest of our time doing, to become for the time spent thinking about it Blues. It's an identity that we choose to wear, and it's one we can choose to take off; borne of familial connections and stubbornness, a shared history.

But in the end, just like those Pies sitting on the bench wondering at their one sided rivalry, I'm left thinking about my emotional investment in a game that ultimately has no meaning beyond what I put into it.

I hurt, because I want myself to hurt.

It's looking more and more likely with each defeat that 2023 was a flash in the pan, and that Vossy and some of those players won't be taking us any further.

What has happened to this team since last June? Why can we only play two quarters of footy?

We stuffed the rebuild up sadly and i'm not sure where we go from here.

I just fear with the Tassie team about to come in, that we could be consigned to at least another decade in the footy wilderness.

This season is turning into a disaster sadly. The sooner Graham Wright starts in his new role and makes sweeping changes at this club the better.
