Xerri is a ruck that never marks the ball. He can't be considered if you're a ruck that never marks.
I think a ruck can be considered if they are dominating in the ruck. But yes overall game has Gawn number one.

This team would smoke the actual AA team by about 10 goals. Sure some guys aren't in amazing form and all of that jazz but if it's purely heads up, match this weekend, I don't see it being close.

HB: Rozee D.Moore Vlastuin
C: B.Smith Bontempelli J.Daicos
HF: Nic Martin C.Curnow Rankine
FF: Heeney Hogan Pickett
Foll: Gawn, Butters, Daicos
Int: L.Neale, Petracca, C.Warner, S.Bolton
Dangerfield is top 10 in the coaches votes from a forward pocket. In fact he's the only forward on the top 20 leaderboard.

Just for fun, here's an All-Australian side made up of players that have never made the All-Australian side before. Happy to take suggestions on ways to improve the side (full transparency, trying to find key defenders as options outside of Taylor, Weitering, Moore & Andrews has been tough) but think it's probably a decent start.

FB: Max Michalanney, Jack Buckley, John Noble
HB: Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Jack Payne, Lachie Ash
C: Hugh McLuggage, George Hewett, Ed Richards
HF: Izak Rankine, Josh Treacy, Riley Thilthorpe
FF: Jack Higgins, Ben King, Paul Curtis
R: Tristan Xerri, Matt Rowell, Bailey Smith
Int: Darcy Cameron, Zac Bailey, Jai Newcombe, Tom Liberatore
Coach: Sam Mitchell (hasn't been AA as coach, obviously a few as a player)

I'm certain I've missed some obvious players so don't be offended if I've completely overlooked someone who's been tearing it apart from your team.

yeah, he's having a great year. but when you start picking the AA squad from guys in great short term form, then that's how you end up with a team like Jake Bowey and Lachie Ash in your AA squad.

Having not seen eth-dog's running "goals+assists" update for a while, I was shocked to stumble across the fact that Jack Gunston is No 1 in the league (equal with Thilthorpe) for that stat!

All the more amazing considering he has only played 5.5 games. Also, is 1 of only 3 players (with Jesse Hogan and Ben King) averaging over 3 goals a game (and the highest average of his career after making the AA squad 5 times previous (team once)).

I don't think anyone had that on their bingo card for 2025 as a bloke with a crook back running around in the VFL, recruited for his guidance of young players, rather than on field needs.

He's always been underrated.

Had they had the Gary Ayres award in 2013, he would've won it, in a forward line with Cyril, Buddy, Rough and Breust.

Not a word of a lie, I saw the notification for this thread and thought "****, I was supposed to do this Monday". I'll update tonight

Respect the hustle but don't lie, you have watched Guston and thought "he's getting a lot of goals and assists" then ran the league wide analysis based on that.

The "I was shocked to find it was Gunston!" bit was well done, though.

But yeah I agree. Gunston as one of the two main targets is going superbly. Another old man dominating.

Goals and Assists round 8:

1. Ben King 29 (24/5))/Jack Gunston (20/9)/Riley Thilthorpe (20/9)
4. Jack Higgins 28 (21/7)
5. Taylor Walker 25 (17/8)
6. Nick Larkey 24 (20/4)/Josh Treacy (20/4)/Darcy Fogarty (18/6)/Paul Curtis (18/6)
10. Jeremy Cameron 23 (18/5)/Jamie Elliott (16/7)|

Well, not exactly.

Someone on our board said he was in career best form and I laughed out loud, set to remind him of just how good he used to be and that whilst he was travelling better than expected, he was still nowhere near his peak.

Definitely didn't expect to find him at his highest goal average, or the high number of assists. Then checked league wide and was even more surprised.

Despite the stats, I still don't think his form is up there with his 2014-2018 (and 2020) form.

Fair enough. I was sort of close though, that you weren't just casually browsing some stats and he happened to pop up there.

With forwards especially, stats don't always tell the full story, although in this case it's clear Gunston is still playing very well.

Jeremy Cameron is one player some neutrals always assume is in top form due to stats (gets plenty of it and goal/assist numbers stay strong), but at times like this season he is playing pretty badly. I don't think he's even featured in our board's league MVP voting once and is a supposedly superstar of the league.

Brayshaw is popping up in a lot of teams.

He's an interesting one - has great footywire stats, but a number of commentators have been quite scathing on his defensive game, he's benefiting from Serong getting more attention than him, and clearly Freo's win/loss record isn't great so is he really having a big influence on results?
