No Dogs except Bont please
You do realise that depending on the GC game tomorrow, you'll finish in an equal or potentially worse ladder position than last year, despite recruiting Battle & Barrass.

Making top 4 is tough, I'd argue the Hawks have underachieved this year, as much as the Dogs.

For port i think we will have Georgiades and and Butters in 44 man squad

both more unlikely to make the final cut, even though i think Butters should.

One is locked in to finals and the other is almost certainly going to miss them. You can argue it, but it would be a terrible argument.

Gunston the only Hawk to make the squad but should also definitely make the team.

Battle i think should be close to a squad selection but won't make it and Hardwick i think would be deserving if he played the full season as a defender.

I took a swing at it. Stiff to miss were Rowell, Heeney, Serong, Dale, Vlaustin and my toughest one Gunston.

Think the team is fairly level, not really anyone playing out of position.
Obviously if i could include everyone i could but had to make tough choices.
Could very easily swap out the entire bench for guys i listed as stiff.

EG Gunston for Darcy, Rowell or Serong for Holmes, Heeney for Richards,, Vlaustin or Dale for Clark.

Its subjective, its hard with soo many talented players.

Hardwick is a pure defender when he defends, so he will never get an AA. Defenders need to be flashy and rack up heaps of possessions across half back.

There's no way the homophobe gets in. Or Darcy.

No Gawn?

There's no way the homophobe gets in.

I mean if we are going on that logic, Steven May would have never made a single team.
Being a dickhead doesn't determine AA status, Zorko is in the same side...noted good bloke Dayne Zorko :tearsofjoy:

Imo Darcy has just not had an AA season.

If you are only playing 17 games you need to be head and shoulders clear of other players (Bont for example).

Not doubting his ability but on output i just can't see a case to be made for Darcy

I don't even think Darcy will make the squad to be honest.

Yes we have underachieved this year if we don't make a prelim this season at a minimum.

But that argument has nothing to do with Dogs being awful and why this award is farce if Dogs get numerous players in the side this year.

Why shouldn't it be taken into account what Rankine did?

You left out Bailey Dale and Finn Callaghan.

Gawn is brilliant when the ball is in the air, but his kicking is generally farcical.
I don't agree with this.

Gawn unquestionably has had farcical moments, but he's also very reliable when he's not under extreme pressure or kicking for goal.

Only Tim English of the premium ruckmen has a better kicking efficiency, and it's only just (63.8% to 62.4).

And in the retention rating of kicks he's better than the rest except for Grundy by the narrowest of margins.

I guess it's only the odd howler that sticks in your head.

Kicking for goal is probably the one which matters most. Kicking sideways 12m to a teammate should be 100% DE for every player in the game.

Max in the forward half is a VERY different kick to Max in the back half.

We've won more home and away games as last season with a harder draw.

That's progress in the right direction.

Doggies failing to make the finals is pretty horrendous.

If we can play two finals I'd be satisfied. Exiting first week will be disappointing but it's tough competition.
