Sam Darcy? Lol.

Reckon that one's very much on hype and not performance, considering how many weeks he missed with injury.

He'll be a feature for years to come but just like his team, beat down on a lot of shitty sides and failed to show up against good ones.
Heads up, you’re objectively wrong about the beating up shitty sides thing. Others have provided analysis on this topic in this very thread, and it showed Darcy actually performs better against stronger teams, and is the best performing (or close to) KPF against top 8 sides

Hmm, perhaps it's recency bias against Freo, where he cosplayed Mr Invisible then.

The Bulldogs Glaze is laughable. FIVE of them?

(And the doggies here wanted Naughton too?)

They had an incredibly soft draw, clubbed seals for half the season whilst failing against the top sides, and the players are treated like war heros.
It's bizarre. Massive fail of a season, coach should be sacked yet they get glazed from the AA selectors and every media outlet giving Beveridge a free pass for yet another poxy season.

I'd be losing my shit if I was Sam Power.

I can't stomach Bontempelli inclusion, its almost a legacy call. 18 games technically meets the 70% threshold, but still......

Yeah one down game. Still took 5 contested marks and spent a considerable amount of time in the ruck because English was getting cooked. One game does not define a players entire season.

Thilthorpe had the single goal against the Pies a couple weeks ago, is he also just beating up on shit teams and cosplaying Mr Invisible?

Thilthorpe's impacted games for his team a lot more than Darcy this year, especially considering Darcy's time off due to injury.

He's in the side due to hype and not performance and whilst I think he'll deservedly make the team multiple times in future years, he isn't worthy this year.

if he's name wasnt bontempelli he wouldnt make it
I know Right. I sit here and think from my own club who has had AA worthy seasons. Amon and Impey have both been fantasic all season, and at least should have been in consideration for the squad.. But no chance when half the team gets annointed each year.

I guess all we can do is roll the sleeves up and try to get the job done on the field. It is a team sport after all.

For mids over 65% CBAs only Pickett/Heeney/Richards kicked more goals

He was 2nd for G/A (in the whole comp missing 6 games) and 6th overall for score involvements

27.1 disposals a game at 76% 6.3 clearances 5.4 tackles 1.2 goals 1.5 goal assist's and 9.1 score involvements a game

Just tell me you don't watch football

nowhere near his previous seasons impact, and there are others ahead of him.

He is literally the highest rated player in the league so please do tell me who is ahead of him

As for less impact it's his highest rated year and only Gary Ablett/Scott Pendlebury/Patrick Dangerfield/Dustin Martin have recorded higher

I think everyone is assuming Worrell is a lock, and he's had a great year. And I assume Georgiadies over Naughton is because Naughton was in a better forward line with more help?

Vlastuin v Worrell.

Player Rating: 10.37 v 8.05
Coaches Votes: 29 v 22
Disposals: 19.1 v 20.3
DE%: 80.5 v 77.0
Metres: 375 v 397
CP: 6.0 v 6.3
Marks: 6.1 v 5.6
CM: 1.0 v 0.5
Tackles: 2.1 v 1.3
Intercepts: 7.5 v 7.9
Intercept Marks: 2.6 v 1.9
Pressure Acts: 9.5 v 6.5

Vlastiun will likely miss out again, but as shown here, he compares very favourably to the year Worrell has had.

1v1 loss%: 36 v 19.5
Ground balls: 3.5 v 5.1

Darcy averaged 2.8 goals to Thilthorpe 2.4

Darcy averaged 3.1 contested marks (in a full season was on track for 3rd highest total all time) to Thilthorpe 1.9

They were otherwise statistically nearly identical on averages

Pies selections 100% correct.

Nick a lock .

Josh , not the impact last couple of weeks , but 55 coaches votes the highest of any back pocket / flankers in the squad outside of NWM. Been enormous for us.

Elliott been really off the boil the last 8 weeks.

So definitely Nick, maybe Josh, maybe Elliott

Elliot is more deserving, relative to his role, than Nick imo.

Obviously reputation and hype matters a lot with AA so Nick will make it, but there’s zero reason Elliot would be excluded

Holmes missed out with 63 coaches votes (most of any defender) in 2024, so it's not a guarantee. His lower impact finish to the season may see him miss out on a 50/50 call.

But, again.....

This is in a team with an extremely offence based game plan, so of course his scoring metrics will look impressive compared to other players who are more defensive minded.

Given the number of elite seasons produced by midfielders, his missed games must count against him.

On season output, the following are CLEARLY ahead of him:

Dawson
Anderson
Rowell
Daicos
Smith
Holmes
McGluggage

Bont is in the mix for a bench or HFF spot with the following:
Heeney
Serong
Green
Callaghan
Butters
Richards

There simply aren't enough spots to go around for the number of midfielders who produced elite seasons - there are going to be some VERY good performers miss out, and Bont's missed games could possibly work against him.
