My guess would be simply the Dogs did not win many games against good teams so less votes for Dogs players in those games.

You would have to dive deeper to see how he actually played in those games.

Pretty much this like Brownlow votes majority of the time if you don’t win you don’t get the most of the votes

Whilst everything you said prior to your last paragraph was inane drivel, your last paragraph is spot on (though based on everything you've said, I'm not sure you agree with what you're saying).

Let's say for arguments sake Bont has been the best performing player in the competition, in the games he's actually played in. We therefore give him a relative ranking of 100 per game, and rate all others relative to Bont's performances.

Given the games he's missed, he'd need to have performed at a 10% to 15% better level than the last midfielder picked in the AA Squad, for him to take his place, based on season output. Because Bont did NOTHING in the games he didn't play.

We've just had too many midfielders have elite seasons for Bont to be amongst the best 7 or 8 based on season output.

Now I'm not for one minute saying Bont won't get in, because I think he will.

I'm saying he shouldn't get in, at the expense of a Holmes, for example.

The reason there is a minimum game requirement is because of the fact that yes the season overall matters, but if you’re eligible than it’s also heavily about how well you did in the games you played, not focusing so much on the games you didn’t.

You can have your opinion but that doesn’t make it right or the way that AA selectors look at team selection.

I took a swing at it. Stiff to miss were Rowell, Heeney, Serong, Dale, Vlaustin and my toughest one Gunston.

Think the team is fairly level, not really anyone playing out of position.
Obviously if i could include everyone i could but had to make tough choices.
Could very easily swap out the entire bench for guys i listed as stiff.

EG Gunston for Darcy, Rowell or Serong for Holmes, Heeney for Richards,, Vlaustin or Dale for Clark.

Its subjective, its hard with soo many talented players.

The stiffest to miss in your team is Gawn by far.

But its ok he will be in the real AA team. By far the best ruck in the comp, still.

I think you missed my point.

I’m simply stating that it exists because there are players who play less games but have been so good in the games they play they deserve a selection. This is comparable to a player who has had similar numbers of poor games as to those who missed games.

The part of this is otherwise they would only select players with a full season. This also similarly contradicts points you were making about durability.

If there are two almost identical players, then the one who did it more consistently should get in. The point is that the level of how important consistency, durability and games played compared to performances within games played, is not 100% certain.

Someone like Bont had a great year despite games missed and deserves a position.

This is in a team with an extremely offence based game plan, so of course his scoring metrics will look impressive compared to other players who are more defensive minded.

Given the number of elite seasons produced by midfielders, his missed games must count against him.

On season output, the following are CLEARLY ahead of him:

Dawson
Anderson
Rowell
Daicos
Smith
Holmes
McGluggage

Bont is in the mix for a bench or HFF spot with the following:
Heeney
Serong
Green
Callaghan
Butters
Richards

There simply aren't enough spots to go around for the number of midfielders who produced elite seasons - there are going to be some VERY good performers miss out, and Bont's missed games could possibly work against him.

If Suns lose tomorrow (and Anderson/ Rowell are below their best), do 1 or both get the chop?

He averaged a career high amount of tackles this year and with injuries to JHF and Bergman alongside Rozee shifting to half back, he had to carry a much bigger workload and responsibility.

I still think he narrowly misses out with the tight squeeze for midfielders but it's harsh to judge him solely on his scoreboard impact

needs 5 clangers to overtake the NWM 2 million dollar man as top of the clangers this year.

The two biggest signings of this year. NWM and Harley Reid are 1 and 2. Reid has done this in 19 games though.
NWM is 4th in effective kicks though and Reid 175th.

It makes what Ablett achieved at Gold Coast insane. This Bulldogs side were still a hell of a lot better than anything Ablett played in up there, and won 14 games.

I don't understand how Naughton's "poor start" meant that he didn't have an AA season.

He just so happened to have all of his bad games bunched up early in the season.

Ben King had a similar number of bad games, they just happened to be in Rounds 4, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 19.

Logically "you can't start the season that poorly and be in the AA squad" is no different of a statemen to "you can't play that poorly in rounds 4, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 18, and be in the AA squad".

I thought the same with Kosiah Pickett - he had some amazing games and also went missing for games, but because it was spread out he made the squad. I don't think he deserved it.
