Reading that shows that battles efforts in the reverse Colman had alot to do with it. Some of these defensive stats just aren't released so threads like this one that's hovering over stats all year, some of Battles key statistics areas have just been overlooked.

Every year people are calling for them to select per position and pick defenders who defend not just attack well, they finally made that call here and people are getting worked up...

It's ok, no one takes the AA seriously anymore after last night. It's a home and away award controlled by Kane Cornes.
The concept has become farcical besides that when you look at some of the players that have got in multiple times.

I do. One or two questionable selections each year doesnt make it farcical. It means that there are a lot of opinions, most that dont matter, with only 22 positions available.

Yes, Cornes is a ****. However, i cant see him standing over anyone, directly or indirectly!

Im sure if each selector gave their own team, we'd all find a selection or two we dont agree with!

It's only a home and away award. It doesn't include the most important games of the year.
It rewards outside players who don't get injured much .

Fair enough but Keane and Worrell are the two that missed out. The two best “defending defenders” all year.

We just haven't seen the stats to confirm that which is annoying the AFL should release more for us to consume.

My view looking at the team was they determine Battle was the best defenders that defends this season. With Clark in the other pocket as more a hybrid. You have to remember Battle also plays tall and small.

Keane was probably competing the Taylor and Andrews on talls, Worrell on the other hand was awesome offensively but going off what kornes said in that article doesn't sound like they believe he had the record or nullify the quality Battle did.

I heard Kane Cornes was in charge of holding back nuclear power in Australia and helped India in the 2001 series win over Australia.

The 4 mids thing on the bench is funny but I like that they effectively said, forwards and backs named on the field first.

Always a few head scratchers and questionable calls the four obvious ones this year being

• Battle over Vlastuin and Worrell which I think is just fundamentally wrong and not sure if anyone bar Hawks fans are going to try to justify it.
• Elliot over Bailey for mine given it's already got the fwd/mid in Pickett. I dont think many Lions fans thought he'd get in. Bailey is an absolute superstar when on though so not too aggrieved, deserves at least one nod in his career.
• Serong was definitely lucky, Holmes and Butters were, if not definitive like I said earlier, still probably better. Was tagged as much as Daicos though which might have got him the gong and Butters when tagged fell apart. I'd have rathered squeeze a defender or forward over any of those three names anyway.
• Cameron as captain, confusing even the man himself...

Bailey is an absolute WTF. great player, but not a career defining season. Serong is a west coast call

The AA captain seems more of a lifetime achievement recognition than making the best actual captain the captain of the AA team, hence why guys like Dangerfield, Franklin, Hawkins, Rance have been made AA captain in the past

They just snuck in due to Geelong bias with their 80+ goals and 100+ coaches votes respectively.

This year's selection panel has a strong whiff of people who are trying to be overly clever and off-trend, but have just made themselves look like idiots.

No Worrell or Elliot. Daicos and Bont on the bench. Cameron as captain (well played to Jezza, knew it was a genuine pisstake).

You kniw what it is. The selectors are pretentious. They're like a bunch of film critics that would come out and say we as supporters wouldnt understand because we didnt play at the highest level.

The Battle decision was probably based on some stupid metric theyll tell us they know best
