We're playing the kids. What did you expect?

No idea what's going on with Charlie though. I'm not sure how a guy that good, who was kicking goals for fun, is playing this badly.
I don't think he's checked out like TDK or Wieters. I think its all swirling around in Charlie's head and no confidence

Just needs to kick one FFS…it’s becoming worrying and is already team deflating when your number 1 scoring option is goalless for 4 weeks

Voss admitted in his press conference that we haven’t done enough work on skills!

"Carlton were trying but privately in the rooms after the game even senior players were baffled by why it was their field kicking that was again so poor. They train well and play badly. A truism of sport is you play how your train and Carlton feel a little cheated by that. Voss was asked whether they had spent sufficient time on skill training in the summer, his response was candidly honest when he said he thought they had, but the evidence on the field would point otherwise.
“The outcome would suggest maybe not enough (skill work),” he said."

what makes it worse is Lions were hardly out of 2nd gear last night

Toyed with us. Players were jogging, joking with each other

That’s how bad it has become
It's somewhat masked by the final margin, a bit of Pittonet magic, and another one of our Milo Kerrigan-esque run of goals...but that's as far as we've been from any team this year. They barely broke sweat.

I get that to a certain extent..but there are basics that players should be able to do like set shots from 30m out directly in front, or 20m passes when there is no pressure on.

Over the last few weeks especially I've noticed that we don't have anyone at the fall of the ball, and the opposition carve us up with minimal pressure.

These are basics things that players know how to do, and should be doing, but for whatever reason, they aren't.
It’s external pressure, players are playing with the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Once one player misses a kick, it spreads through the whole team.

Not sure why Voss hasn’t released the pressure valve and let the team play on instinct, make football fun, like when they were juniors.

It takes 15 minutes for the senior players to warm up.
I50s we couldn’t hit a barn door. When we did, OMG.
We are in positions, zone wise, to defend but a lack of foot speed and tackle intent allowed too many burst opportunities.
Loving the youth bringing a different energy, couldn’t care less if they make a mistake. Better to see that than a senior core who can’t bend down to tie their own shoe laces.
Pitto u legend.
Cowan looks refreshed and ready for the CARLTON captaincy.
Moir is the watch, just really excited about this one, has what you can’t teach. Frothing.
It’s pretty obvious that sides are running off our slower players and exploiting a 50% TDK.
Really hoping Lemmey can step up, has all the tools and can kick straight.
Oh! and to the umpires…it’s really not that hard, there are 4 of you. Be professionals.

Answers are in:
  1. Lockers rooms (rift between players)
  2. Voss game plan
We need a reset And a new coach

Perhaps I am being naive again about what the club will do, but this offseason does feel like it will be a big one. I’ve thought like that in the past, but this time it does genuinely feel like GW won’t stuff around and waste this opportunity to clear out the football department, likely the assistant coaches (maybe Voss too), get rid of players who aren’t required players and maybe even make a big trade or two from the lists core. I hope I am correct in thinking this way and we see a big reset.

Not sure what was more frustrating last night, our poor footskills, our set shot goal kicking, the umpiring (4 of the 5 first quarter goals to the Lions cam from dubious umpire intervention or lack thereof) or realising I am paying Kayo to show the centre bounce in the small screen and the goal celebration in the big screen (not to mention have them plaster boxing ads over the actual game or show the coaches box while the game is going on).

On the actual game;
1) The Lions were absolutely awesome - their tackle pressure and ball use was elite
2) TDK is not a forward - if the Saints get him it could be the worst deal in history
3) That was more the game we want from Curnow - just really missed McKay and has to sort out his goal kicking.
4) Some positive signs from the likes of O'Farrell, Cowan and Moir - Motlop also looked pretty good (apart from his set shot)
5) The Lions were awesome

Curnow worked his arse off. Led strongly up the ground and took quite a few contested marks. But absolutely no confidence at all kicking for goals which is strange to see from a Coleman Medallist.

He did and he did last week.

Watching live I thought Cripps, Curnow, Weitering all tried hard. Issue is now they are playing as individuals and trying to do it all themselves. We have no system

We had 45 inside 50's for the game that resulted in 18 marks inside 50 - not sure you can say we didn't have a system - just failed to convert the great opportunities we created
