I'm amongst the many people that have been saying that for some time.Motlop is a midfielder who can push forward. Whether he’s good enough to do that at AFL level is debatable, but that’s his go. He is not a small forward.

I said it in the game thread but I'll reiterate it here.
We do not have a half back line.
Every time the opposition gets the centre break the ball is guaranteed to be going deep
It exposes our extremely slow midfield. It exposes just how tall we're trying to play against any team with skilful athletic small and medium forwards. When you play a team like Brisbane who have the likes of Bailey, Cameron, Lohmann and even more it tears us apart.
They get so much more for significantly less effort. We need to put in two or three times the effort for the same result. A team like Brisbane needs to put in a half efforr. It's genuinely 50-75% effort to 200-300% effort required
Not sure about Motlop. In close fumbles. When tackled goes to ground. Never gets the ball out in those circumstances. Just maybe ok on the outside. Always needs more time to dispose of the ball or it goes straight to the oppositionApart from a couple of obvious blunders, thought that was Motlop’s best game playing higher up the ground. Was clean and drove through traffic. Worth persisting with more in pre-season.
Zak lasted the game, that’s a positive.
It looked like it, but then he didn’t go off so must have been crampSomeone said he done a hamstring in game day thread
Anyone else there notice the lack of atmosphere. Son wanted to stay till final siren as there is no bed time on school holidays … we got a seat on the train home.
That is a rarity as a blues supporter.
One of those problems will fix itself at the end of the season, it’s the other one I’m worried about. We have a Charlie Curnow & TDK sized problem at the moment, one has completely forgotten how to kick a goal, the other simply doesn't want to try anymore.
We need to get young Charleson in. Has pace and scraps well for the ball. Rebounds beautifully as well. I'd play Carroll on a wing, where he can attack contests one one one.
Agree with the first half. Disagree with your major point though. Leave the kids in the ressies with luke power. Let them learn for the year with a coach that can teach them something more than defensive, contested yesteryear footy. This season is more of a write off than any we've had this century. Everyone has gone backwards bar a handful. Let's not drag more into the quicksand. We've had 17 quarters this year where we've kicked 0 or 1 goals.
Average of 1 quarter a match.
10 consecutive matches where it's occurred.
Summarises how insipid this club has become.
Back the youth in for the remainder of the year - there is literally nothing else to salvage at this point.
We wont win another game regardless.
We don't even have attendances to protect.
Set us up for some future success And solely focus on playing the kids.
Let’s see. What positives did you see?
Negatives are obvious cheap shots at this point.
Yep he’s not good enough for afl standard. Good 2s playerNot sure about Motlop. In close fumbles. When tackled goes to ground. Never gets the ball out in those circumstances. Just maybe ok on the outside. Always needs more time to dispose of the ball or it goes straight to the opposition
Serious… maybe he just cramped he usually has the last quarter off.He didn't actually, watch the last 2 mins again. Looked like a calf or hammy.
Matthew Lloyd. The guy was a metronome and super savvy at forward craft.I think we should bring in Levi Casboult as a Goal Kicking coach.
