I said it in the game thread but I'll reiterate it here.

We do not have a half back line.

Every time the opposition gets the centre break the ball is guaranteed to be going deep

It exposes our extremely slow midfield. It exposes just how tall we're trying to play against any team with skilful athletic small and medium forwards. When you play a team like Brisbane who have the likes of Bailey, Cameron, Lohmann and even more it tears us apart.

They get so much more for significantly less effort. We need to put in two or three times the effort for the same result. A team like Brisbane needs to put in a half efforr. It's genuinely 50-75% effort to 200-300% effort required
But we do have a problem with effort.

We don’t maintain it. I think we’re as poor mentally as we are skilled.

Let’s see.
Charlie 4 games, 0 goals. TDK was awesome. Ollie stuck every tackle as did the rest of the team. We didn’t get easily shrugged off, and on our end would be embarrassing if a 105kg ruckman can’t shake of a 70kg opponent half his height, lucky that didn’t happen. Umpires were sensational.
It’s not hard to see the negatives…

What’s the point of banging on every week?

You must be getting tired of it…I know I am.

We can have the best forward line in the competition and it will still not make a difference with our lack of foot skills and decision making. I the offseason we need some speedy on ballers HBf's and wingers that can break away and pass the ball.

Not sure about Motlop. In close fumbles. When tackled goes to ground. Never gets the ball out in those circumstances. Just maybe ok on the outside. Always needs more time to dispose of the ball or it goes straight to the opposition
He needs to be our 5th of 6th scoring option for our team to thrive. He’s been asked to do way too much for the actual level of player he is. Says a lot more about our front half players than him to be honest.

I’m sure it has been mentioned before, but we could be possibly be the worst team kicking the ball out from a behind or bringing the ball out of defence of all time.
By the Flemmington strait, we’re clueless in terms of applying different methods and variety of options…

Serious… maybe he just cramped he usually has the last quarter off.

I was thinking/hoping that too, but he still looked proppy going down the race. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Tonight also showed that sadly Durdin, Motlop, Fantasia, and Fog aren't worth persisting with longer term, each for their own reasons that everyone is already painfully aware of. I'm just not sure who we have in the VFL to replace them.

A combination of our key players being down on form this year, playing through injuries when and where they can and also being as checked out as what they are. Further, team is relying on a number of first and second year players to play at the level of hardened AFL players.

To the youngsters credits - mostly - they haven't dropped their heads too much and are up for the challenge. You just can't count on them to help produce winning football results and we won't be able to for another year or two.

Most of our vets are at the crossroads. Are they up for the fight? Do they want to remain committed knowing that it may take until 2027 or more likely 2028 before they see really positive results or are they that checked out that they would rather be elsewhere or retire?

Must say it feels concerning watching Weiters, he’s generally been such a proud player. He looks a bit how I feel about the team, trying hard but playing for himself. Just no energy or sense of real leadership that has always appeared so natural to him.

I think Brisbane have had the best list for 4 years now and gets better every year.

They really should be flag favourites.

Challenging run home for them but what an outfit when they get focused.

They play Dogs, Suns, Pies and Hawks and Dockers in Perth.

I reckon I’ll watch all of them just to see what they’re capable of.
Yep, and they get Dan Annabelle this year, who is a jet too.

Motlop a scapegoat but he showed some better signs around the ball. Burst from stoppage on 3 or 4 occassions to good effect.

Cowan the obvious highlight, penetrating kick and growing in confidence. 20 and 22 disposals in the last fortnight, career highs. A few kick ins amongst them. HOF the other, reads the ball beautifully. Lot of development left in him but plenty to work with.

Carroll fought back hard. Still think he benefits from a few weeks at VFL level.

TDK - piss him off. Couldn't be more disgusted by what he's dished up in recent weeks.
