I don’t mind Ollie, good team first player, but I can see the merit in dropping him occasionally and giving Binns a run. Maybe it helps both of them develop more. Binns must wonder what else can he do to get recalled to the senior team…
The MC seem to be a a group who has their favourites, that really shits me too
Binns isn’t a stain on Ollie’s shorts at the moment. Especially in the role Ollie is playing

He’s a positive but also infuriating.

He’s always providing effort and options but a few too many errors.

And my god has anyone in the history of football been caught with ball as often as he is? And it’s not there’s someone directly on his hammer he’s usually taken 3-10 paces already.
he's a winger or he's not in the team imo.

Undersized, can't stick a tackle, ordinary disposal, less than ordinary decision making (esp. when under the pump) and can't defend.

He has shown he can play on the wing, no idea why they're trying to make him a HB... and that was before NN went down!

Literally all I took from that game was Carroll looks the goods. Everything else was training drill type stuff
Carroll & White definitely look the goods.
They have genuine foot skill and both can read the play. They must be given every opportunity to stay in the side and cement their spots IMHO.

Nah - there was a bit more in it.

Some nourishment without a doubt!

So you’re saying that yesterday’s win was empty calories? ;)

The average loss this year for WC was 57 points prior to our game. 71 point win over them should be celebrated (above avg), hopefully the team can build on this for the season. My gut feel is we finish 10-12 this year now, I hope it’s higher but that my hunch.
Hopefully some of the younger players like Binns, Moir, White & Carroll can get a few games so we can have a proper look at them. Few players over 30 to be replaced in the coning years

I didn’t see the game, how did White go? 15 touches and a goal sounds like a busy game
I was impressed. He got to the right spots and had a few goal assists too. Did not look like a fish out of water.

Me too, White’s kick to space that allowed Crippa to mark and goal is what we are screaming out for.

Passes don’t have to precisely at the forward which we seem to think is the only alternative to the bomb it in fast, high and long.

Giving our talls the chance to out mark the oppo by clever kicks to space or to the advantage of Charlie or H, or kicking to some space for our smalls to run on to it have been very sadly out of our repertoire for some reason.

White seems like he has some IQ and is fast, nimble and skilled. I like him a lot.

Zach Touhy in the early days?

Good to finally get a win on the board.

Plenty of positives (thought Haynes, MM, Motlop were all very good after poor performances) but I think this result speaks more about the opposition than us.

We barely laid a tackle, especially from our midfielders, which shows we aren't working hard enough without the ball.

We looked better with the ball than we have but this was due to WCE pressure, or lack of, rather than us being composed with the ball.

Hopefully this is the start of the tide turning!

The bad:
Overall poor defensively, gave them far too much space, poorly positioned/setup with our press structures
We allowed too many easy shots on goal
I have a question for you here, because I keep seeing this.

We've played Collingwood (4th), Hawthorn (5th), Bulldogs (12th), Richmond (16th) and WC (18th); you'd argue that's a pretty good cross section/sample size for the competition, between good and poor sides. We have the fourth best points against in the comp; it's why we have such a healthy percentage despite being 1-4. The problem isn't our defense, but our ability to score; we have the fourth worst offense in the comp. Kicking to 60 points a week simply isn't going to see you winning too many AFL games.

So - with that in mind - can you tell me why you think our press structures are poor/not working, when the evidence suggests they very much are?

Fogarty got caught badly on the wing yesterday taking forever to get rid of it. I noticed later in the game he adjusted and then moved the ball a lot quicker and kicked that beautiful goal.

Mots need to learn to collect the ball and quick release it by hand or foot, seems to take an extra couple of seconds or move only to get caught.
Motlop was better in the midfield - he doesn’t seem to have those fast-twitch fibres that make some small forward so elusive.

He doesn’t have the speed to find space in a congested forward line.

Pretty good in the middle this week.

Interesting to see his work under more pressure in the midfield.

Got a feeling this has round 14 2023 v Gold Coast vibes.

You guys single handedly turned your season around in 1 game and I’m thinking the same thing happened on Saturday. And the good news is that Carlton are in a far better position and have far more margin for error this time around.
Thanks for your post! For what it’s worth I agree :).

Sorry there’s not more likes here, but most are busy in our ongoing “sack the coach” meeting.

It’s in the room right next to yours, if you’d like to catch them?

Motlop was the third fastest player on the ground.
