Surely it's time the AFL scraps the current FA compensation model.

It's time they start factoring in the quality of the players leaving. Would have to start including club B&F's, league honours, AA's, games played over a certain time frame, and any other factors like it.

Also surely the AFL are smart enough to know that they need to update the compensation bands to reflect the contract inflation that has been happening over the last few years .

This is true, in addition they don’t take into account that FA contracts are already inflated in the first place due to clubs paying in cap space rather than draft picks.

That will only take them to 12 wins maybe 13 wins, still below the 14 required in the 23 game era.

They still lack enough game winners outside of NWM to catapult them into the 5-8 slot.

They got a lot of top picks in the draft last year so have some good young ones coming, then there will be more this year.

Clubs in Essendon’s position would normally massage the payments to guarantee a band 1 outcome. Big administrative error. I think pick 6 vs 20.

Yeah. Him being Unrestricted meant they had no ability to negotiate to get band 1.

I think they have to do something like this. There's becoming a real trap down the bottom of the ladder. Everyone wants to move to the good teams, so teams down the bottom have to pay a heap more for the same player as a contending team would. Save up, and once you have some good kids splurge hard, because if you don't you're likely to lose the good kids. If it works, they're contending and can pay players less and might be able to stay up. If it doesn't work, they're where they would have been anyway.

Go well, Checkers. Always thought of him as the Father figure of the team more than any of the old guard. I'll still enjoy watching him demolish himself if I catch a Melbourne game.

Still think we haven't filled that Murphy hole properly and will need to cover Howe too. I think there are plenty who could transition to the midfield. Forward line seems to be taking care of itself.

I'd love to get JUH but I am more of a spectacle enthusiast than a pragmatist (when it comes to the game).

Yep. Getting a pick 40 for pick 50 is a very small advantage. Getting a top 5 kid for a collection of later picks is great.
