What was the point of this off season? What was the objective? Either we’re all in for a flag and should’ve gone extremely hard on a Clayton Oliver type, or we’re in a rebuild and we should’ve looked to improve our draft hand.

Losing Mihocek for a young fringe tall does not do anything except delay the rebuild by 12 months

The biggest takeaway of this trade period is that pick value has eroded further with the ability to trade two years ahead - 3 FR for Petracca and Curnow, 4 FR asked for Merrett, 2FR asked for Simpkin.

If you're wanting to trade for a star player in their prime next year better be armed with 3 (more likely 4) FR picks or be prepared to add players to the deal.

You always knew that being able to trade 2 years in advance was going to lead to the demands increasing from 2 to 3 1st round picks.

The deal for Beams of 5, 25 and Crisp looks like a steal in comparison.

If you want to get kids interested in monetary policy and economics you can use AFL draft picks as a textbook case of money supply increases being inflationary. As soon as you could trade one year ahead every A grader’s worth became about 2x first picks, now that you can do so two years ahead it will start at 3x firsts.

If the draft pick lovers needed anymore evidence that draft picks beyond the top 8 are overrated, then see what list managers are doing with them (and some like the suns even with the top end ones).

Mid season trade period could change things up too. If it’s implemented.

Tank next year then trade for Humphey and sign some free agents, contest in 2027.

Oliver chose Giants. How hard do you want to go? Particularly if he'd prefer the anonymity at the Giants.

Replacing a 33 year old who left for more $ with a 24 year old wanting more opportunities? How can that be a negative?

Our deal for Houston last year is a steal for sure. We're lucky the rule hadn't yet changed or we definitely would have given up more.

It still doesn’t change the value of the pick. But there is a feeling the standard of player in the draft isn’t as strong as in the past
