Such an underrated and unappreciated bloke on the whole. Works harder than anyone out there
never understood the hate he got he clearly drifted in and out of games because of two big injuries in 2018 and 2019 and never recaptured pre-injury form because he was rushed back by Buckley when Jamie got injured

With West looking almost ready already (let alone in 2026) and McCarthy seemingly to come in next year as well as the recruitment of Howes, I’d wager Mihocek might say he CBF getting battered for another year and might pull a Crawford and go out on top with a Premiership with a little left in the tank

he said he wants to go on

Seeing he started his AFL career 5 years after he should have, I reckon Checkers will want to stay as long as he's asked.

I get that, but his role is pretty demanding on his body

I’m just saying I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to go out on top

I don't think that's enough to warrant a new contract. I know he's well loved but so are the other players.
Some are going and some people won't be happy. :(
I think his days as a top 23 player are behind him. Not having a very good year to date. I think he's out of contract at years end. My opinion is he will retire

What’s your take on his worth? I’d have him ranked in the 250-350 bracket league wide which has him in the best 23 of every club, but I don’t think he’s a top 10 player at any club. That has him smack bang in the middle on about $600k in the short term. The thing is you need to offer double that for his management to pick up the phone…

I’d probably err toward a Reidy or Soldo type anyway with Cox gone at season’s end so if the Cameron stuff is true I’d be holding him unless we can secure CDT in the process (I doubt ROB leaves). I’m not holding my breath just yet on Allan having anything more than draft points value at this stage. Like Reid you’d be acquiring on potential and his potential is still up in the air, IMO.

Agreed on JGD. He’s only in the frame if he wants out because I doubt he has value anymore after effectively losing two seasons to injury. I’d rather persist to get his body right and see what the next stage is for him.
I’d offer an incentive based contract with a 750-800k base with certain triggers (eg AA) to push it higher. That way it’s on him to deliver if he wants to max out his earnings.

Just comes down to whether he wants to play in a contending team or a cellar dweller. The only teams that will offer 1M+ to a player who’s not yet worth it will be those struggling to hit their salary cap floor.

I’d only do that as I’m very bullish on Reid being a top five player, others may disagree.

Just depends on whether he prefers to take less to play for a contender, or whether he wants to max out his earning potential and play for a cellar dweller.

Probably not but it depends on potential recruits. McCarthy, Condon and a trade in of someone like Moyle would see him delisted in all likelihood.
You can scratch off Condon until at least mid 2026 at this stage given he is going back to college
I can't see Moyle happening either.

Agree but you never know. Condon might change his mind or get injured and come back and do a preseason in November. While we might get a Cox replacement not necessary Moyle but there is a good chance we get someone.

Unless they think Oscar can step up into the cox role in 2026 with another pre-season. We'll see.
Given Cox's role has been given to mcstay, that may not be an issue. We probably dont recruit someone else.

Think we will probably recruit a journeyman to cover Cameron if he goes down. That is essentially what Cox is atm. But I think Cox will retire. Frampton can do it but he is doing a good job down back. I think the Coaching staff have doubts about Steene at AFL level as the main ruckman.

Given Oscar said he wants to keep working on his forward craft this year, I think they probably see him as a ruck forward, not a pure ruck.
And if they keep Smit in defence, then yeah we may try find a free back up pure ruck. We wont have much trade currency though, so maybe someone in state league

Would be great if Oscar could become the permanent Cox replacement. Here's hoping 🤞

Was chatting to fraser yesterday and he indicates his debut isnt too far off. We talked about the progression and improvement he has made this year and how its easily forgotten how much footy he has missed

Spot on. He’s still a baby in ruckman years

Yeah, from being overlooked multiple times, to being a Premiership player and Collingwood legend.
Why wouldn't you want to go on as long as you can?

The blokes who’s form ‘falls off a cliff’ when they get to 29/31 aren’t lacking guts or commitment. Just happens. The Tucks, Fletchers, Harveys and Pendleburys are the ‘freaks’.
