Writing off any of our elder statesmen is a little premature. Titch might fail to win a spot back and Coxy might have to accept the depth ruck role now, but the rest of em look prime at the moment.

WHE is doing what he always does (playing whatever role Fly needs him to) and its that versatility that the coach loves. I doubt Fly wants to tap him on the shoulder just yet.

Ed gave his chances a big boost on Friday and Oscar continues to show improvement.

I'll start with McCrae, AJ, Ryan and Titch atm... the others will have to come from somewhere.

The blokes who’s form ‘falls off a cliff’ when they get to 29/31 aren’t lacking guts or commitment. Just happens. The Tucks, Fletchers, Harveys and Pendleburys are the ‘freaks’.
No doubt, but the bloke that hasn't "fallen off the cliff" yet is Checkers...and you don't get those lionhearted, team first key forwards very often. We'd be nuts to pension him off just yet.

With West looking almost ready already (let alone in 2026) and McCarthy seemingly to come in next year as well as the recruitment of Howes, I’d wager Mihocek might say he CBF getting battered for another year and might pull a Crawford and go out on top with a Premiership with a little left in the tank

Checkers has already said he wants to play as long as the club wants him....

You can scratch off Condon until at least mid 2026 at this stage given he is going back to college
I can't see Moyle happening either.
I can’t see Moyle staying. Witts is ageing like fine wine and Reid looks like the prototype do it all next gen ruck. Clubs will come knocking and he would be silly to not take the opportunity to become an immediate best 22 player at another club.

Others will be retired and gone before Checkers. I think Cox will definitely give it away at the end of this season. Howey l think is a 55/45 in terms of finishing up at the end of this season. He is non committal to next year.
I think Titch, depending how much senior footy he gets this season is a 65/35 chance of giving it away, and WHE would be 60/40 that he pulls the pin at season’s end.
If l had to say who finishes up at the end of this year, l'm going Cox, Mitchell and WHE.....

I’ll take that bet.

I’m no authority on this stuff, but I’m reasonably confident he’s contracted through to 2026. Cutting with a year to run has never been our style (or else AJ and Macrae would’ve struggled to survive 2024).

Ryan is really starting to show something too.
Don't forget that he doesn't turn 21 until September - still a kid!

I think at the rate Ryan is improving he may well survive.

Naicos, Long, Ed, Hayes, West, DeMattia, Jiath, Ryan, Cochran, Parker, Steene, Howes + McGuane, McCarthy, and Saxena next year. The future is looking bright!
Why does everyone forget Harrison, he’s more promising than most of these so far imo

I'm not suggesting cutting him, just that he MAY find more / better opportunities by returning to SA

I appreciate the context and agree! Port seems a real chance especially if they lose Bergman. It feels a win win so long as they aren’t throwing a token pick 60 at us.

I don't think anyone has forgotten HH.
We'll see him strut his stuff next year.
I've seen him forgotten in a couple posts listing young players in recent weeks
My bold hot take way too early Kane Cornes call is he will be in our round 1 2026 team

Steele , Checkers and Jamie the only locks to going around again in 2026 barring catastophe others who aren't contracted are wait and see especially considering Howie's age (35 at the tail end of the month) and injury history this could be his last year
Howie will be in the AA conversation

You just reeled off a whole bunch of players that haven't played a game or less than you can count on one hand. Reality is only a few of those will make it

Ryan is contracted for 2026.

Edit: as you’ve addressed in a later post.

Rare that I'm not overly positive on Collingwood players, but I just don’t see it with Ryan at this stage. Had a really strong start to his first year but even then his flaws (poor decision making, below average 1v1, pretty average disposal) were evident. Don’t think he’s surpassed or even consistently matched those early performances and players like TJ, Parker, and now Cochran are showing much more. Contracted for 2026 so still has time, I'm just not confident. Happy to eat humble pie if I'm wrong.

I’m with you on Ryan. Hope he makes it just as I hope all our players do. Just can’t see what his AFL relevant weapons are. Seems a little vanilla.
