Not sure you can say he is clearly mentally scarred. Maybe he’s just a bit out of form or not fully fit yet.

If we could get him on the cheap it would be huge. I tend to think though that we’ve moved on to other targets.
Looks like NR agrees with me 😉.

That article by Ralph doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Why would we be messaging the Bulldogs, and why would they be replying saying don't waste your time? Given he's an UFA any discussions, if they are indeed happening, will be solely between our club and Bont and/or his manager...?

Exactly.
Ralph is full of shit.

Seems a coincidence that we've locked in a big fish and all of a sudden, JUH returns to football

He's probably been told if he wants a trade to Sydney then he needs to come back and train, to show he's on the path to redemption, and then the Doggies can screw over Sydney in the trade, and ask for overs ...

Going by those comments via text message, it seems it was more of a tongue in cheek playful enquiry rather than a serious ploy. Otherwise it would have went through his manager.

Yep a truly bizarre narrative he’s concocted. Ralphy is such a w***er.

Just because we're all in for the flag this year doesn't mean we shouldn't be thinking of the furture as well.
If 6 out of the 8 vets sign on for next year, does this mean we're all in for the flag again in 2026, so same thing happens again with the young players?
Then what for 2027?
Start to rebuild?
What I am suggesting is that these young players would benefit playing some senior games with our vets and be mentored by them, it's such a golden opportunity.
Just my opinion and am thinking I will change my name to Robinson Crusoe 🤣
Is there a future there with Steene? It’s up in the air because he’s long odds to ever be our number 1 ruck (especially once we bring in an mature ager to replace Cox post 2025) with Cameron likely to extend this year or next for at least a further 3 years, King on our radar, McCarthy due at years end and maybe Condon. The point being while we’re in the middle of a premiership run why are we giving senior minutes to a guy more likely to be off the list than number 1 ruck before we start your rebuild in 2027?

I’m also confident we won’t be rebuilding by 2027. At a guess there’ll be 3-4 new faces from other clubs in the best 23 to replace the likes of Steele, Pendles, Elliott, Mihocek and Howe along with draftees that are more likely than Steene (at this time) just as Hill, McStay, Lipinski, Membrey, Houston and Perryman replaced others.

Well run clubs, which we are, understand how to replenish as they go so long as they find a star along the way (which Richmond failed to do). The best way to go about building towards a rebuild is by gifting games to guys that aren’t there.

Jumped on to suggest exactly this. All Ralph did there was tell us how he got the story. He hears industry scuttlebutt about a link to Collingwood, he speaks to Collingwood to get that there’s enough coming back to turn our head, he goes to Bont’s management gets nothing and then goes to the Bulldogs who say don’t waste your time. All it told us is our interest is genuine and Ralph or the Dogs want us to think we’re no chance. Ultimately he stays, but it’ll 100% bump up his value (hence why Bont is delaying) which might compromise their pursuit of Butters. It’s a win win for us.

Further to that, we are never rebuilding with Nick Daicos in the team, we will continue to attack trade and free agency for at least a decade, and back in the draft picks we get to be develop as good as any first round pick.
