Jay Clark reporting that Matt Rowell is set to stay at the suns. The clubs that were involved have now dropped off the chase and its now evidence in the last 48hrs, he'll be re-signing.

Interesting. Assuming we’re one of the clubs that has dropped out, wonder which fish is the one in our crosshairs? Always just assumed it was Rowell.

Always had a suspicion it has something to do with West Coast and their interest in Cameron and Allan. Could be Reid or one of their high picks for someone like Butters…

Yes and there is no way we make it past the Prelim without him. His best ever performance IMO.

Thing is, when some of us say they would do a Rowell for Jordy+something trade there are a few assumptions/factors at play:Jordy wanting to get some sunshine, thinking 5+ years ahead, injury profile.

Thanks for bringing some sense to it because everything up to your post in this discussion line was a struggle for about 5 pages (especially Spinny’s walls of absolute nonsense).

Both clearly have there place in the soup of a discussion like this because in JDG you not only have a premiership player, but a premiership hero the flip side of which is a premiership hero that’s done two fifths of stuff all since that day (which is now 45 weeks of footy ago). For me the discussion very simply boils down to what the + is because Rowell is now a much better footballer and will be for the remainder of their careers. He’s a locked and loaded 25ppg, 6-8cl, 12cp and 8t guy which we don’t currently have whereas JDG gives us those numbers “at his best” which lord knows when we’ll see it again.

I don’t think the hope of seeing JDG fit and firing again is remotely enough to justify not discussing him being involved in a trade for Rowell and as per the original pontificating if the club floats JDG that’s your answer on where he v Rowell is at.

The other factor here is how closely someone has watched Rowell play. I’m sure if the topic was Bont or Trac for Jordy+ the responses would differ.

By the sounds of it Rowell is staying anyway. I would never do Jordy for picks, I just think you do have to have an element of ruthlessness for our list profile and find currency where you can to set us up for the next 5-7y. It’s looking very unlikely to come from multiple stabs at high picks and we’re not getting the f/s combo of Moore+Daicii again so we’ve got to think creatively.

Try to get Butters to stay til FA and go hard at him next year.

I reckon we wait to see West at the top level at least once before discussing what a future with him in place of Mihocek looks like.

FWIW whilst I’m open to discussing a move on JDG this one to me is less desirable given how important Mihocek is structurally.

FWIW whilst I’m open to discussing a move on JDG this one to me is less desirable given how important Mihocek is structurally.

We aren’t going to get anything of significance for Checkers in FA compo given his age. Probably and end of second round pick at best, and he’s worth far more to us than that.

Many years? No, that’s nonsense, he’ll likely start getting more regular game time next year. He’s already physically well developed and has proven to be exceptionally strong overhead, and yesterday proved he has the temperament to perform under pressure.

He’s not some skinny Ben Reid type who needed 3 years in the gym to even contemplate competing at a higher level.

Next season there’s a few we can go after like a Butters or Reid accordingly.
