If you read my post properly, you would have seen that I used the phrase “as part of a deal”.

So in essence, it would hypothetically be

Zac butters for
Jacob ryan,harvey Harrison, draft picks.
Forcing them to cut a bunch of players, who they may rate higher than Ryan and HH, seeing as they drafted them and didn’t draft our guys.

More is not always more.

Whether Voss stays or not I'd suggest that Wrighty will throw the kitchen sink at Hayden Skipworth. He's the next "Fly in waiting" and clubs across the competition know it.
With Simpson and Longmire currently without Clubs I doubt the power brokers will allow GW to appoint a Newbie. Unless he convinces them they are rebuilding which is an impossibility IMO.

Still intrigued who the “big fish” is going to be. It’s gone rather quiet after Matt Rowell decided to stay. I hope it’s Butters

Believe cal alluded there is no big fish now. I think he suggested it was rowell. Now its unlikely we are big players in the trade period given our focus would be the draft

I feel like Bobby will go to WA and that's fine.

Harley Reid will likely ask to leave, will be plenty of opportunities at picks and Freo also set the market with Schultz so they can cough up.

I hope we then turn it into something.

I would love to have a crack at Eagles future 1st, Pies obviously want players

Weitering, Cripps and Curnow remains the strongest basis for a spine in the league. They have serious talent to return from either injury or unavailability. They’re terribly coached. Unfortunately the end result is a squad that needs tweaking not demolishing.

For the sake of clarity though they only bypassed Houston because their cap was tight into the end of the decade. By moving McKay and TDK on they’ll bring in at least 2 top 10 picks and will free up circa $2m in cap space in those years to hunt a big name like Butters. They’ve already got Jagga and quality FS’ in the pipeline. They’ll rebound quickly with a good choice of coach and GM of footy…
You saved me posting this myself. As much as I hate to admit it, the Blues aren’t that far off it in terms of their list. The real question is will the egos at Calrlton allow Wright to go in and do what needs to be done. If Cook couldn’t do it I have doubts that Wright will have much more luck in that respect.

I don't entirely agree with this, I think our focus will still be on looking for established options, even if the bigger fish are gone. Our intention will still be to extend and maximise the window. Someone mentioned Flanders earlier. Players like that. I don't think the draft requires that much focus either, we'll take McGuane and McCarthy and it doesn't look they'll require to much stress to match.

Maybe it's Merrett :moustache:

Lloyd just randomly suggesting he might go and chase success...

Certainly made my ears prick up.

I reckon Skipworth as per the other poster, makes sense and would be a good choice. So hopefully Carlton don't appoint him.

The real area where Carlton is lacking is onfield leadership. We were lucky that Fly recognized and had Pendles, Sidey, Moore and a driven player like Nicky D to help deliver and implement his philosophy.

100% we will attack both fronts - experienced players and the draft.

There will be experienced players wanting to join - why wouldn't you want to be part of this. But if these players are serious then I would expect them to take a pay cut.

Carlton seems utterly bereft of player leaders both on and off field.

A key difference between our senior players a couple of years ago and theirs now is that ours had a wealth of finals experience and had shown they could handle adversity previously.

Guys like Weitering and Curnow seem remarkably uninspiring and go to water under pressure.

How many we take will be interesting. We're definitely spoiled for choice. A luxury to have.

So long as they’re good. In a weak draft year dominated by these academy and FS selections we’re projected to only have one in the 1st Rd anyway.

I personally don’t find it interesting at all when most of our improvement year to year usually comes from the likes of Perryman, Houston, Hill, McStay etc. or guys internally taking a leap like HH or Reef. Kerr is the prime example given it’s his second year of draft eligibility and no one in the media gave a shit about him or found him “interesting” in 2024 because of his injury…

More talk of Flanders/ Merrett and less of McCarthy/ McGuane/ Lonie etc. please and thanks.

I think he will go too.

Jackson, Hill, Petrecca - three way trade? We are probably getting short changed.

Yeah short changed unless the Dees are covering the bulk of Petracca’s salary. Petracca is a shadow of the player he’d need to be to be involved as a key piece in that trade at 30yo.

Without giving oxygen to speculation Hill may leave for me it’s only a goer if the Allen compensation pick or their 2026 1st is the key piece. If we need to chuck something back their way so be it.

If zac butters were to request a trade to Collingwood,I would consider sending jacob ryan and harvey harrison as part of a deal.

Ryan and harvey are both SA boys, should help with any trade we offer.
That may count 1% towards satisfying Port. No way would we get value for HH who showed a fair bit in his few games last year. Not sure if Ryan has any value trade value at all, maybe a late third at best.

Are you not expecting the worst by speculating on the malaise of Cripps, Curnow and Weitering, questioning their missing talent and downplaying the injection of talent they’re due to receive?

All of those elements also don’t need to be the wins we had because they’re starting from a much better base than we were having finished 17th, pissed away a top 3 pick for some magic beans (how ****ing awesome would we be with Callaghan right now 🤯) and paying a massive salary to a gun to play against us.

I think you need to be more mindful on this one that things are never as good nor as bad as they appear…
Agree with this, ‘things are never as good or bad as they seem’ - unless your stkilda :). Cripps, Curnow and Weitering are all elite and would be better with the right players around them.

Also our list was not so hot at the end of 2021. It had no depth, debuting rookies, the timeline on Elliot, Pendles, Sidey, Roughy, appeared to be shrinking fast, Grundy was no longer all Australian standard, while part of a highly talented core. However, two things which hopefully set us apart, the remarkable longevity of our veteran’s and Daicouses (esp Nick but plural). Also the coaching selection was spot on, great recruiting, and better injury management and conditioning - may it long continue.

Carlton’s regular rotation of coaches won’t help them however, even with Wrighty at the helm. Deep seated cultural shit needed to sort out first I expect, but just guessing. I doubt Voss’s is bad as Carlton are making him look.

Rotating the coach again, without redressing other issues, will likely reinforce an underlying shitty culture and secure a period of mediocricity.

Yep. Newman back, Then if Smith comes on really quickly they should be fine if they can add some competent outside runners - not expensive in trade or salary. I think they should keep McKay and use TDK compensation to target small forward. I think they'll have a good list as early as next year if they get the right targets.

Bobby is electric and a game-changer, an absolute superstar of our team. He is who makes the crowd rise.
I’ll be crushed if he leaves.

If Butters or Reid aren’t part of the deal if he does (please no) then forget it
Please don’t mention Trac as part of Bobby deal

Be a few years before we chase another Big Fish
