Perryman would have to go into the midfield next year and it would be too many defenders
Talls are tricky. You need depth because they get injured a lot but you can't just play a developing kid in a kpd role (as we've just seen) the way you can by popping a small on the wing whose main role is running the patterns rather than contest.

He was playing there until we started to get injuries into the defence, and they kinda have just kept him there since lol But it would open up for him to return there and give us a different look in rotation in the midfield
I was actually surprised we didn't put him in the midfield during the Brisbane game, he seems to be the forgotten midfielder, we do need a "different look" in our midfield.

Could fracture our locker room too.

JSOS in means one of Howe or Frampton aren't, so if both thought they might be regulars in the 22 next year, they are being told something very different.

JSOS isn't coming to play VFL and get a call up when Howe or Billy are injured.
90% of the season they wont all be fit at the same time

And we can swing one forward when we don't have 3 fit tall forwards as well. I don't think we'll have too many talls - unless it's for a great reason with West and Howe coming through really quickly.

It we don't win, it depends how to me. If we get blown away due to pace through the midfield - it'll be time to move past the slowies.
I sort of agree with this, however, between Naicous, Jaicous, McReery, Crisp that is a fair pit of pace we have at our disposal to but through the midfield. If we get blown away I think the problems run deeper than just that.

I’m not sure if Frampton has been offered a contract, however, so far he has not yet cemented anything more that good back up KPD, relief ruck. Despite a number of good games as a KPD Framps looks lost at times without Howe and Moore. That may not be fair, but he still seems a step off the best defenders to me. Pity we couldn’t land Battle or Barrass.

It may be that we are willing to keep whoever of Dean or Frampton will play for bottom dollar, otherwise we will just pick up a cheap KPD that gets delisted or from the VFL, etc

Possibly, would be nice to find a gem.

We haven’t landed a gem since the trade class of 2022 and Shultz who is now shooting the lights out.

I just think you don’t delist Dean on 150k or whatever and pick up Silvagni on 675k as his replacement. That doesn’t check out from a salary cap perspective. Too much money in your KPD if you then have Frampton and Howe on average wages of 450k or whatever.

I think what the club is likely hoping for is to reduce Frampton’s salary to be closer to what Dean was on, but he may not go for it.

I wouldn’t begrudge Frampton for leaving. He only turns 29 at the end of the year. Probably wants one good contract to end his career.

If you’re Sydney, Dogs or even the Blues, you surely offer a 2 year contract with a trigger for a 3rd year.

He sures up your defence by 2 goals if surrounded by decent players.

As it stands we do have some uncertainty around other veterans though. Not a simple Dean (or whomever) for Silvagni swap, is it?

Guessing it likely encourages the journo to keep probing? Guessing they probably knew the meeting took place.
I assume the journos did know. If they kept probing he could simply keep repeating “no comment” I guess.
After Fagan and Longmuir said they wouldn’t confirm it under any circumstances last night on AFL360, it might be a more prudent approach for Fly to do the same moving forward.

But why? Fly does things differently to the coaching orthodox, and it’s one of my favourite things about him. I’m not interested in what other coaches would do.

I admire his honesty and how he’s unique and not a carbon copy of other coaches. I’m with you there.
The only part Fly and the club should consider is whether it is the best approach for all parties concerned, especially a player who may be weighing up a switch to Collingwood.
If the player ultimately ops against the move, I’m sure he’d prefer that his club and teammates had no knowledge of the discussion with Collingwood (other than the odd journo rumour).

Happy to keep Frampton as depth, he offers a spot in most positions, defence, ruck or forward. He's not the greatest in any of those, but we're paper thin for experienced depth at the moment. There's a gulf between our oldies and youngies!

Moore, Howe, Reef, Frampton & JSOS with maybe a draftee or Smit developing as a KPD.

Charlie Dean delisted.

I think that’s a decent mix. Howe will retire end of next year. Gives us a year to figure out if Reef & Frampton are up to it.
You can add Cochrane to the list, he looks a real player down back in the VFL.
