To be fair, the bombers injury list is shocking. I wonder if a change of clubs would help.

We do “okay” with hamstrings.
It’s just not this year though. Past two years he’s missed months with soft tissues and with a big contract to take on it’s just too risky

Unless he does a Jack Martin and stays fit away from incompetent medical teams it could work

I’m not sure that Soldo or Reeves is any better than Cox.
Cox uniquely brings his height in and is a match up headache.
I hope it’s one of your other options.
I am Cox is absolutely cooked. He’s always been average overhead and he’s now poor and whilst there’s proposed changes for 2026 until they’re mandated, which will be post trade week, you can’t take him into 2026 under these rules. He’s already bad enough imagine 12 months from now.

I wasn't in the country when all that went down with Grundy.
It's my understanding that the club pushed him out, is that not right?
I don't know who made the decision to give him such a long contract on huge $$.
Even so, if DC is going to get 850K per year, that will make up for the past few years when he's been shortchanged.
He's one of the hardest workers in the team and I would hate to think what the team would be like without him.
Eddie wanted to keep him. So the club ended up giving him a ridiculous contract.

The new administration then made the correct call in trading him out.

I’m not sure where the $850k has come from. Haven’t seen any guesstimates in anything I’ve read other than a suggestion he’s left $1m on the table by staying.

Hopefully one of the guys coming through is the replacement and DC will be there to bring them through.
If wrestling is banned, then Cox may get a lifeline given his huge leap. Same applies to Smit. But for Steene and DC the change could be an issue that may require positional flexibility.

Thanks. So he didn't even play one year of the new contract out.View attachment 2392413
He played two seasons of his new contract with us before being traded (though the second year he was injured). The deal was signed in 2020 during Covid iirc. It was a 7 year deal on ridiculous money and was the tipping point for what happened in the trade period at the end of the year. He was traded at the end of 2022 (Fly’s first season) I don’t believe entirely his own choice but the new administration handled it better than the old administration with the players jettisoned in 2020.

I would be taking a good look at Cam McKenzie from Hawthorn. Nice skills, seems to have a burst of space and would be looking for opportunities.

As our midfield stands, we were shown on the weekend we struggle against players who have quick burst acceleration.
Agreed 100% - of all the other midfielders that are being floated he's the one for me that stands out.

Class ball in hand and would make a really nice 1-2 combo with Nick for the next decade no doubt

I think the list management team had made the call to let him go. I'm sure Buckley confirmed that a while back during some interview. Then the interference came from you know where.

Yep, what was even more ridiculous was we signed him in January, obviously Eddie was too scared to have a player coming out of contract during the year and we all know what happened in 2020…

I’m a big fan of him, but I reckon he stays at the Hawks as a spot will open up if Worpel departs

Note: Rucci is the Ralphy of the SA Footy media and is a bit of a campaigner, but if this were true I’d hope we’d give Wilkie a call immediately

Was just about to post another tweet with the same story

If this is true we better be making inquiries

Oh yes, I need to find a place to read up on how the AFL managed the game during covid.
Wiki maybe.
Thanks.

The biggest hit though was to finances and there’s no way we sign Grundy for more than about 700, so he probably takes a shorter deal until the worst passed.

But whilst we complain about his deal, at the end of the day if we hadn’t signed him on a ridiculous deal, Fly may not have cut him and we definitely don’t win the flag if he’s still there.
