I punched him at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow hotel. I couldn't help myself
I punched his fist with my head at the Bonobo & Absinthe hotel.

I think it's underestimated how difficult for defenders our system is when there is a break down higher up the field.
It was pretty stark in the 6 quarters following HT of the Brisbane game and again post stoppage on Friday night. I’m not confident heading into September, but I am comfortable enough that if we bring the heat up the field our defence will give us a chance.

I expect this will be sharpened up on ahead of finals.

The way we even allowed Melbourne players to easily stream through the corridor was concerning, but I trust this group will turn it around quickly.

Interesting that journos seem to be pretty happy linking some very high profile free/pre-agents to clubs e.g.
  • Zac Butters to Bulldogs or Hawthorn (Kornes even suggesting they are offering Kenny a job to ultimately nab Butters)
  • Harley Reid to Hawthorn
  • Petracca to Hawthorn
  • Not that he's a free/pre-agent but Charlie Curnow to Sydney
  • All of the above and every other top 10 player in the league to bloody Geelong (If nothing else, I hate them for this alone)

But with no consideration to whether something like this is possible. Take Hawks for example, I'm guessing Barrass, Battle, Day, Sicily, Weddle, Wizard and maybe 1-2 others would be on high salaries? Same with Bulldogs with Bont, Richards, Naughton, Darcy? Sydney would be similar with Gulden, Heeney, Warner, Papley, Blakey etc.

Do these clubs not have salary cap issues or do they have a pile of first round draft picks that no one else is aware of? Seems to be the first thing brought up as issues if the Pies are ever linked to good players.

It is evident to me that we need a genuine A-grader or two in almost every line, starting with defence and attack. Every other finals team seems to have this, whereas we have a "our sum is greater than parts" style which has been successful but not sure how sustainable
I want the same salary cap as Geelong & Hawthorn, clearly, they are in another league!!!!

The AFL did investigate Geelong. All they found was Scott potentially earning money elsewhere and that's all they were able to find. They seem to have a bottomless SC but the reality is that they just do things better

What’s a good example? I reckon Reef or TJ or someone like that has the potential to become a marking back flanker.

But not one of our backs, including Silvagni if he does come in, is capable of roughing up a big forward. If there is one thing the last two months have shown, it is that we are extremely vulnerable in defence, and are reliant on a 35yo in Howe who frankly makes up for lack of size with amazing aerial skills.

I’ll go as far as to say, I think our key issue to address in the trade period is the backline. I want us to poach one of these big brutes down back, then maybe get a big brute up forward as well for a change.

where does Frampton play? imo he is a bargain at full back.

The AFL's investigation into the Geelong books was similar to the investigation into the Hotel Quarantine of the Dan Andrews Govt. Absolute farce lets be honest.

It didn't seem like an intense investigation but they would have had a good look. Would love to know their secret if they have one . I ****ing hate them with a passion

Same, but Ive heard every excuse known to mankind to explain how they keep landing blokes and none of it holds water over time. For me, I think the AFL doesnt want to open pandoras box the way they did with Essendon and the jabby jabs (another Geelong link there, low and behold) so they turn a blind eye.

Absolutely! He’s worth much less while he’s not attending training over a 10 week block of a season than a guy that flipped our season on its head last Friday.

Let’s spin it around and Kai Lohman just stops training out of the blue for the Lions due to personal reasons. After 3 months of basically not fronting up he asks for a trade to Collingwood are you giving up anything much for him when you’ll be paying him circa $800-900k pa? You have no idea if he’s going to ever come good like JUH. This could be the end for Bob because if you aren’t in the head space to train you have no value to a football club.

Like everyone I’m hoping and praying he comes back into the fold. Where I run counter though is with the bizarre angle from some to push him out the door. Nothing good will come of that.
You’re being completely disingenuous or naive - teams will not treat Bobby’s issues as PERMANENTLY affecting his prospects.
It’s not as if he’s got a debilitating injury that will impact his performance.
So as Eddie suggested, it’s absurd to seriously believe Bobby is worth less than Shooter.
Did Geel get shafted in the Kelly trade because he had family issues and wanted to go back to WA?

Have you not seen the absolute stream of bullshit from posters? They actually referred to Bob as a sociopath a few days ago.

If I did a sweep of this thread (which I’m not because it’s a bazillion pages long) I bet I’d find at least a dozen posters who want him gone for “derailing our season”.
Settled down - You’re being hyperbolic. It’s nothing like a dozen.

You’re being completely disingenuous or naive - you know full well that interested teams will not treat Bobby’s issues as PERMANENTLY affecting his prospects.
It’s not as if he’s got a debilitating injury that will impact his performance.

Guess cases in point maybe- Jesse Hogan, Cam McCarthy etc have still been picked up by other clubs even with some off field/health issues.

You keep trotting this out but it's not the same situation.

That's just tinfoil hat stuff. The biggest concern the AFL has(well, maybe concussion might beat it) is game integrity. They would definitely not be turning a blind eye to anything if they suspected cap breaches.

As it has been described to me a few years back, Geelong(and Sydney) are the two best run clubs in the land. That's their ability to attract and retain. We seem to have become more attractive over the reign of Fly.

Just wish our season would end so we can find out which delisted potato has been linked to us

Not sure why we would be going for May if Silvagni is coming?

Cochrane is being developed
TJ is being developed
Reef is being developed
Frampton is 28
Silvagni is 27
Moore is 29

Howe is our only defender with a 3 in front of his age and he’s an “undersized key” anyway

Not sure we should bother with May unless we were getting him in a deal that’s impossible to refuse
Ryan also - he’s ahead of TJ

AFL and integrity are like oil and water. There is zero game integrity at the moment. The main excuse is always "theyre just run better". Tin foil hat or not, I dont believe they are far and away better than every other Victorian club in their list management. Furthermore, its crazy to think no other club over the last 15-20 years could catch up on this practice, especially considering how personnel moves to different clubs and would absolutely be taking this IP with them.

Ok - then please correct me.
You've been told already.

Let's just agree that I'm right & you're wrong & leave it at that.

okay maybe they aren’t all brutes like Thilthorpe, but haven’t most big forwards like Treacy, Hogan, Naughton, Darcy, hell even the prancing pony, given our backline massive headaches? I mean, our captain, Darcy Moore is absolutely useless against these types
Dean took Treacy for much of our last game - and kept him quiet. Only true threats are Darcy and Thilthorpe.
