Operation get butters anyone?
How the hell does Geelong have $2M a year to offer? They supposed to have used their salary cap with Bailey and others, yet they have $2M cap space?

This is ridiculous.

Unless they plan to trade off signed players.

Also, Bulldogs have 2 million? are they planning to let JUH go for nothing??

remind me , what were their contracts coming over?
his pay would put him in our top 5 players, he is no where near that and never will be

and if i was a current player, ie Elliott or Mihocek, i would be pissed that they are throwing money at him while not rewarding them and their service
What signs have you seen that the contracts of Bobby, McStay Houston, Perryman, DC have pissed off the team?

Every club has money except us (according to the media)

Saints: NWM (increase), TDK, Aleer, JSOS, Ryan, Flanders
Bris: O Allen, Draper & Ridley
Geel: Butters, Marshall, Oliver, Worpel
WBD: Butters, JSOS, May, Lever

Most of it will just be noise created by journo's

I would say that’s most definitely the plan at this point.

You see that, and they just look like pipe dreams. The only club who may get all the players named is Brisbane.
The others no way. Can't see all those players linked to them, arriving there....

Most clubs have 50%+ out of contract each year, including us.

The only players we have signed up long-term post 2027 are Daicos x 2, Houston, Perryman, Maynard, Cameron and Hill.

Moore and De Goey are out of contract in 27/28 from memory.

Considering our core of veterans are on rolling short-term contracts (Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe, Mihocheck, Elliott) we should have much more flexibility than most other teams.

Hmm that will have to give the “we don’t overpay, dickheads come here because of the lifestyle” theory and all the suckers that are on peanuts there a few mixed signals

The price for butters will be too prohibitive via a trade. You can be certain port will match any FA offer if he chooses to leave next year. You would be looking at 3 first rounders as a starting point.

Given our midfield lacks young depth, we are better off targeting multiple young mids, which is my personal feeling.

Edmund thinks Silvagni will take up the Saints big offer 😂 wonder what team he barracks for…

It’s closer to 900k over 5 years he said.

Unbelievable.

What’s the moron base this on? Has he spoken to Jacks manager or does he just think highest bidder wins? If I was busting for a shit and Sammy’s Edmund’s letter box presented itself I wouldn’t even waste it on him

RE: ZAK BUTTERS

Hi guys,

Spoke to someone very close to the Zak Butters camp this morning.

He has received contract offers of close to $2m per season from both the Western Bulldogs and Geelong. Both are willing to trade for him this year, but think Port are unlikely to let him leave early.

These clubs are at the front of the que purely for financial reasons (they are offering Butters the best financial packages) - and not because he has a geographical preference to live near Bacchus Marsh or the Surf Coast.

Interestingly though, I asked why he wouldn't join a club like Collingwood, considering we are the biggest club in the AFL, and he would be able to play in blockbusters at the MCG every second week.

The answer I got was interesting......

I was told Butters would love to play for a powerhouse like Collingwood, but that as of yet, Collingwood had not yet made any concrete approach, let alone put forward a contract offer.

The feeling I got was that if we did put forward a compelling offer, we would probably jump to the front of the que.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have had the view that we would have a hard time approaching top 10 in the league-calibre superstars over coming years, because we already had the best player in the league who has signed a long-term contract for unders, and therefore we could never really justify approaching someone and paying them considerably more (apart from maybe Bont), without upsetting the apple cart, and justifiably so.

However, considering Nick himself has named Butters as the best player in the league, this may be an exception to the rule.

Considering the pending retirements we have over the coming years, I would be pretty comfortable offering Butters close to $2m a season, considering at the salary cap will be close to $20m by 2027 - $2m in 2027 is what $1.2m was in 2021-22.
Unbelievable! As in I don’t believe it. The Geelong football club the absolute best in the business in retaining players, giving them farms, hiding all their indiscretions and having every player at their club sign for unders offering close to $2m to any player is something I can’t see happening. They’ve spent over a decade building the take less to keep everyone happy culture and I don’t see them blowing it up as good as Butters is.

I will say though that the Naicos dilemma is a reasonable take. It handcuffs us from a throw money at it perspective in the pursuit of King or Rowell if others are offering $1.5m at them unless it’s not about money or Nick himself plays a leading hand.

Best you forward this onto Leppa.

The latter, 100%.
First it was the Dogs, then it was 50/50 with the Pies, now he’s guaranteed off to the Saints. Sam is all over the shop.
Then said Silvagni to the Saints has been the word for some time now… yeah right.
Stinks of him desperately wanting the best compo for his own club.

This is what I've heard from someone close to the Butters camp.

It might not be what plays out in the end, but as it currently stands, he has 2 similar compelling offers from the Cats/Dogs. Based on this, he is leaning towards the Cats, but at the same time, he is not wedded to either team for any other reason except for financial terms.

Remember:
- Geelong broke their salary structure in 2021 to get Jeremy Cameron on circa $1.1m, when the salary cap was circa $12.5m.

Anyway, this is what I have been told. Lets see how it plays out. If Port does decide to trade him this year, very high likelihood its to the Cats.

So basically Zak is sitting by the phone like a teenage girl with a crush on Leppa and he’s playing hard to get?

Get onto the boy Justin!

At least he's getting Carlton fans hopes up that they will get 2 x band 1 compo
Pick 8 for TDK and Pick 9 for JSOS 🤣.

Shhh. don't tell them that other compo comes in at Pick 2 (O Allen), Pick 6 (Draper) and Uwland (GCSA), Patterson (GCSA), Annable (BLA) means that Pick 8 becomes Pick 10 but only gets them the 14th best player in the draft and JSOS will be lucky to get band 2 (more likely band 3).

Oh well with all these picks coming in the next Paddy Dow and Sam Petrevski-Seton are just around the corner for their charge back into the top 12 of the ladder

No I don’t remember.

I stand by it there’s zero chance Geelong are offering him that much money.
