This time last year we where not linked to anyone except for Lobb
Spot on mate. Its bloody April, plenty of water to go under the bridge. I think Houston can actually still get to Carlton according to Sam Edmund so you never know until the last minute

Very Harsh as Allan was 1 of our better players vs GWS and was Stiff to get Dropped
Fly talked about this in his interview, had nothing really to do with Allan. But a role thing. He was going fine but they wanted him to clean up a few things in the vfl. But reassured him he is part of the future and want to see him get opportunities.

GM: How hard will you fight to keep Brayden Maynard?

CM: We’re not in a hurry to get rid of Bruz. Ultimately, free agency is there for a reason, it allows the players to explore options. Bruzzy is much loved. I tell him daily.

GM: Do you sit down and say ‘here’s what we can do for you’?

CM: I am not in the role to forecast that. We have list management and Justin (Leppitsch) is driving that. But I assure him every day, ‘Bruzzy, you know how much we love you’. He has a big decision to make and that’s what free agency offers.

GM: Are you comfortable with North Melbourne publicly expressing their interest in him?

CM: Yep. This is the game. We want to be active in this market and if we are going to be active, you have to expect it to come the other way.

MM: Are you confident you will keep Brayden?

CM: My heart says yes, but we are living in a business world. I don’t think they are in a hurry to make a decision.
Fly is spot it's a Business Now and Semi-Pro like it was back in the Day

MM: Reef McInnes went from an inside mid to a pointy end of the ground forward then he went back to fill the Nathan Murphy role. How did you feel when he injured his knee?

CM: When a young lad goes down, (it’s tough). You see the work that has gone into getting a chance and being energised by that opportunity … fighting for a contract last year. Everyone has a story, but the stories sometimes become sad ones very quickly. So we live in that care and love. He is getting an operation next week. You quickly go into solution mode. We put a contract to Reef to show we wanted him as a part of our future.

GM: Will you take a ready-made defender in the mid-season draft?

CM: We are looking all the time. Reef is definitely out for the year; we have Harvey Harrison who is not quite ruled out. He has had a little setback, so it is going to be a challenge for him to play this year. That timeline is not quite finalised yet.

So with AJ and Mitchell No Gurantee we could have 4 MSD Picks but we would not use that Many

Its obviously a hypothetical - I'm curious to see where you rate Butters amongst them.
Sorry I thought you meant in terms of likeliness to recruit.

As a player, he's the one I'd most like us to add. I think he and Nick would be dynamite together.

AJ isn't out for the year either.
I believed everything was pointing toward 3 months or less. My assumption was plenty have been confusing their hope for him to be on the inactive list with the actuality of the rehab from a fibula fracture. A tibia fracture being a different story AFAIK.

I have been a fan of Mitch Lewis in the past but recruiting him would almost do the Hawks a favour.

It's amazing how the Cats and Hawks can recruit players and no other club really bat and eyelid of compete.

Where the heck are the Kangaroos and Saints trying to inflate the contract?

You raise a good point, plus Lewis is quite injury-prone.

Honestly, I'm not ready for the Hawks to become a powerhouse again. It’s going to make me hate them even more, along with Geelong if they keep attracting all this talent.

It’ll just make it even better when we beat them.

Has Mitchell had a further setback? Otherwise my understanding was he’d be back sometime this month.
He’s still a TBC, with his latest update being:
“Tom Mitchell has hit a milestone in his recovery. The midfielder commenced a running program this week after experiencing some soreness in his right ankle – opposite foot to his plantar fascia.

The midfielder will focus on building up his running loads over the next fortnight.”

I’m a bit worried about his body

Sweet. This is one he’s been managing all career so whilst I get your angle it’s no setback that will keep him out long term. He’ll need a strong back half of the season because you’d think at least three of the senior guys don’t go on and right now Cox is the only other I’m struggling to see playing beyond 2025.

Yeah, at this point feels like Mitchell and Cox might be the last years. Does Howe go on again? Do one of sidey or pendles pull the pin? WHE if he ends up on the fringe?

Personally, as much as I don’t want it to happen, I feel like both Elliott and De Goey may retire before we expect them to.

I think Elliott will have had enough with his body.

I think De Goey will have made his bank and just want to slink away into retirement in peace, a bit like Dusty.

Elliott is another. How much more can he take physically?
Checkers? he's been a batting ram for years.

I think Cox will be a proposition of whether Mihochek plays on, whether Cameron goes, whether Steene or Smit kick on or flop.

Could see him sitting on the list for two more years as depth or potentially going this year.

I think most of them would need to be pushed to leave. Pendles and Cox are the two most likely to actually retire, but Pendles might want that games record and I think they'll try to persuade Cox to go around again. He's good depth ruck and forward and we'd need to replace him for that as unlikely that Smit or Steene are ready by then and tbh I doubt they'll both be still on the list.

No idea who might get pushed - none of them really look past it - but there's a lot to play out - if we get really exposed for pace through the midfield they'll need to make some changes and serious injury could see the end for any of them.

There are a few younger ones who will need to shine to keep their spots:

Smit or Steene - I doubt both survive
AJ
Dean
Macrae
Markov
Sullivan

So there might not be a need to push blokes - unless we recruit a fair few.

I still have a little bit of hope for Macrae. I think his issue is he can’t play in a midfield with several of Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Mitchell because he lacks pace.

I could see him playing in a midfield of Daicos, Allan and McGuane.

I don't think any of them are without hope, but they'll need to do something this year

Unless our younger half backs take a massive step this year I can’t see us in a rush to get rid of Markov.
