I agree, but after the Grundy situation I wonder if that ruck position is one we value enough to pay 800k+ for. Maybe (probably, I don’t know anything) that is off the mark though.

I would hope we pay him and he stays. His contested marking alone is huge for us.

I don’t think $800k is particularly unreasonable anymore with the CBA changes. If we were talking $1m+ then it becomes more of an issue, and that could be what WC offers, but do you leave a successful club at the peak of your powers to go to an absolute basket case for $1m over 5 years? Especially when remaining a 1 club player at a club like Collingwood has significant potential financial opportunities that come with it?

Unless there is a good ruck replacement for Cameron, if we are still in the premiership window next year, I would want to hold Cameron to his contract with the promise to trade him out at the end of 2026. If we lose Cameron next year we might have to resign Cox for one more year.

What if means an upgrade to our midfield. We are currently being carried by Sidey and Pendles…that won’t go on forever. I would much rather have another A grade mid

Given he’s held his own at AFL level (obviously with growth to come) compared to not having debuted, I would say he’s quite different

He's been afforded opportunity I'd say and played his role but this year (his 6th at Essendon) is the first year where he's actually looked a senior ruckman and been given 1st ruck responsibility. Who knows if Steene wouldn't acquit himself equally as well if he should get the same opportunity. Bryan is stuck behind Draper and (up till this year) Goldstein, and it's only been injuries that have given him his opportunity. Steene it's Cameron and Cox and the only time he may have been given an opportunity he himself was injured and the opportunity fell to Frampton.

The $1m+ offer was debunked weeks ago.

I'm not saying he has received that offer, but if he did, he would find it difficult to knock back.

If North is serious, they would know they will have to pay a premium for a free agent (as every other club does), but also an added sweetener given their club's position.

I'm assuming what we offer Maynard, North will need to better it by at least $200k pa and/or add length to it. $1m pa is plausible. I'm also assuming they have a lot of short term cap space.

Yeah, personally I think it's so important to have a ruckman who can take a contested mark. Just provides so much relief.

I think that's always been Grundy's weakness.

I don't think we can afford to lose Cameron, and I don't think Cox has another year in him. I'd try to extend his contract now. He is in our leadership group, so the club must rate him highly not only on his on-field performance.
