He's a UFA. That's the equivalent of having another 5th round pick if we decide to skip recruiting him and save a list spot for the draft

We also have 3 F/S NGAs as young talent coming in for this year.
just because he’s potentially available as a free agent doesn’t automatically make him a good choice. Depends what the end goal is. If we are thinking we can challenge next season, go for it. Get him in. Otherwise it’s a strange play.

No it isn’t, because he’ll play more than one season for us

You'd rather keep Dean on the list as our fullback? And have Frampton default best 22 unchallenged?

Let the players go who are reported as not happy with their contracts if that’s try. Perfect timing to get some young blood in now. Trade them out for picks but no fly wants players. 😣

Yep

All the alleged "upset players" can go

Get some picks for high picks for them

I’d rather look to the draft and trade in younger talent if we can. Propping up the current side with middling defenders seems like a waste of a spot. It that’s just me. I’d rather find a young defender and give them experience while Moore and Maynard etc are still there to guide them.

With what picks? We need all the points this year for our 3 F/S NGA prospects.

Or are you talking about Moore/Maynard mentoring young Dean or another SPP selection like Josh Eyre last year?

Sometimes you need to go backwards a bit to go forwards.
Sure. But we don’t have our own first this year, and Silvagni is a free hit upgrade for our backline. We’ll add McCarthy, McGuane and maybe a kid or two more this year, but adding Silvagni (younger than Howe & Frampton) is a no brainer.

clearly we disagree on what a no brainer is. But I guess it depends on when you expect us go be relevant again. The oldest side ever is going to take some time to fix. I’m not sure Silvagni is the answer nor the smart play.

I don’t think it takes that long for well ran clubs like ours to retool on the fly

Maybe. But we are a level of old that has never been seen before. It suggests a lot more of a rebuild than any team has had to manage before.

We’ll be shedding some of the less useful old imminently, and are actively recruiting players to smooth the transition away from our better old players (Perryman & Silvagni in particular). I just don’t think a rebuild is what’s needed

Fair enough. I think it’s a bit more dire than that. But hopefully you’re right. Hopefully McInness can come back from his injury and stake a claim to that spot. But I dare say the injurys that the two of them have copped might make them unreliable members of the team at best.

Time for a rebuild, lets have a new side ready to compete by the time nick is 25.

If fly doesn’t want to develop draft picks, then he should say that clearly. It is time for this club to invest heavily in midfielders.

he should be told in no uncertain terms that we are investing in the draft for the next 2 years

no more giving away 1st rounders , has not worked 2 years in a row now.
the worst of Shultz has been far better than the best of Houston , that's saying something

still have not got bang for our buck, now we are left with 2 players in their late 20's who wont be at their best when we rebuild.

but I can see us doing a fire sale now, which is going to hurt

Given the no of players they are linked to , it is a huge surprise they still have any farms left to give.

They might have to annex nearby suburbs and call it geelong.

Still a lot of farm acreage down on the peninsula.

yep, we are going to need "top end talent", that has to be the no 1 priority. Have people seen the look on nick daicos's face tonight. He was extremely frustrated that he had to do everything. He was also extremely frustrated with players being stagnant.

We need to target west coasts picks. We have the players they would be interested in trading their early draft picks.

I am genuinely concerned about the carnage that Fly is going to leave behind. We headed to WCE type bad the way we are trying extend the careers of already weary players.

Seems we’ve come a full circle today…
buddy I understand you find our losing amusing, but I never said collingwood would never consider the possibility of trading them. Tonight just confirms that it is extremely likely that we will need to clean out players to bring in top end talent, and the players who request trades will more likely than not have it granted.

Mate I don’t find it amusing at all. I was very much hoping you’d win as I said in my earlier post, it stuffs our draft pick too.

More that I mentioned at the start of the day about the clubs trading then you’re mentioning it at the end of the day.

Would be pretty untidy to visit an oppo board to rub a loss in. We’re better than that.
