RE: Tsatas - I was never a fan of him even in his draft year and had him outside the top 10 for most of that year before he snuck in towards the end.

Nothing has changed since he was drafted; he can't kick, isn't physical enough to play pure mid, doesn't run defensively and doesn't have a tank full stop.

His lack of tank is very concerning for an outside player especially.

Unless he works his ass off to improve his tank a ton and basically reinvents himself into a run and carry metres gained-type winger, I can't see what his role is at AFL level.

He can't kick, which rules out defense (or anywhere for that matter)
He doesn't have a tank, which rules out basically any outside role on the wing or half forward.
He doesn't work defensively, which again rules out defense and midfield.
He isn't physical, which again makes it difficult to give him time on the ball.
He struggles to compose himself at stoppage, and often throws out a handball or dump kicks forward.

If he can't make massive improvement in one or more or those areas, he's not making it anywhere.

In saying all that, I wouldn't be against taking a punt on him to see if he can turn it around in a different environment.
What were his underage strengths? It was a pretty hot draft so even to push top 10 he must have done something well?

Would he be any chance to become a contested/defensive inside mid?

I don't mind tsatas even if it's to appease wardlaw to be honest.

Maybe playing with his mates he grows? Becomes what bailey Scott was a few years ago?

For anyone wondering - and not that it matters now - but Tsatas was selected at 5 in the 2022 draft, behind Aaron Cadman, Will Ashcroft (through F/S), and out own Sheezel and Wardlaw.

Notable names afterwards include; Bailey Humphrey, Cameron Mackenzie, Jhye Clark, Reuben Ginbey, Mattaes Phillipou, Oliver Hollands, Jaspa Fletcher (through F/S), Elijah Hewtt, Matthew Jefferson, Harry Rowston, Max Michalanney, Josh Weddle as well as our very own Jacob Konstanty and Cooper Harvey.

Good year for rookie elevations too that year with Butts, Owies, Ginnivan, Noble, Durham, Schultz, Atkins among them.

I absolutely love this new strategic direction from the football department.

Target high end draft picks who have failed at other clubs and back in our elite development program to turn them around.

Cutting edge thinking which just might work.
It will only cost a 4th rounder. I’m sure Brady won’t get sucked into giving up a 2nd or 3rd rounder and a 4 year contract to get anther teams fringe player over the line.

So in sum, Twomey says:
  • we're not in the picture for Starcevich anymore
  • we're still keen on Spargo, who has an offer from the Dees on the table, but he isn't signing it
  • we're still keen on Windhager, and he implied that we're offering the most $, but Dogs, Ess and Demons also keen (Cal says if Saints get money to the level we're offering he'll stay)
  • we've had interest in Connor Budarick, but there are quite a few others too

I suspect all of these were just the recruiting department desperately trying to recreate the lightning in a bottle that was the Jordan Gysberts coup.

I absolutely love the graphic weaponry imagery that accomapnies trade updates. Mega bomb, huge info nuke etc.

There's a dystopian thought exercise about how Cal Twomey would have announced Hiroshima and Nagasaki if he were a newsreader then

I reckon the next stage of this new strategy is to target guys in the draft who we think have elite talent but have been injured and have therefore slid down the board.

Hopefully they’ve considered this as well.

As Big Kev used to say, “I’m excited!”

Like Patrick Voss?

I need to eat my words on Stephens, I think it’s worked with him, but yes, a few misses.
