700k is yesterday's money...quality attacking HB that the current game is built on, l can see a base of 900k.

So was it a case of our recruitment team undervaluing the 2024 draft or overvaluing our F1 thinking that would be enough to get back into the first round?
I'm on the camp that we paid too dear of a price for Daniel and you can spin it whichever way you want, we certainly weren't in the position to trade a F1 given our current state - had kept our 2nd pick last year, M.Whitlock would probably still be on the board, we know his brother was still there! We could have kept F1 (likely P2,3,4) and used a PSD on someone like D.MacPherson or anyone.
Maybe Clarko purposely wanted to trade the F1 to wean us off selecting midfielders or half forwards in the first round:p
That and to rid us of the mentality that finishing down bottom has some positives

We didn't get great value for the Daniel or F1 trade. We would have at least got Jacklock with pick 29.
If things fall differently on draft night with players picked, it may have been the Swans F1 (pick 7) or GWS's F1 (pick 11) coming back with their 20's pick to take Mattlock. Imagine that.
Still think it's a bit foolish to think we'd be picking best available at pick 2 on a midfielder and whether another team would be willing to part with a F1 to move up in the top 10 this year, I'm not so sure. Hawks perhaps to get Greeves.

WillPhil should definitely go to the Eagles if he could lock down a consistent spot in their midfield. Isn't really getting the opportunity here and probably won't going forward with our midfield depth. Wouldn't be mad if he went over there and ended up being a really good player and made a career for himself.

This might be controversial but I think we've invested enough in key defenders. I'd keep looking at stoppers in the state leagues to support Whitlock and Comben.
We still need some depth developing underneath now, whether state league or the draft (pick 38/56) to eventually replace Kal/Pink/Logue/Corr across the next few years. Some more immmediate like KD. Corr in 12 months.

If we pick up Archer May in the MSD and F/S McCartney picks us in 2026 (sounds like he's a fwd), then forwards depth is okay in terms of replacing Darling. Wawson might be a swingman but seems like he is looking okay as a fwd as well.

What a kick in the face that would be for us, considering we have been trying to rebuild through the draft while contending with a stupid amount of dilution through the academies and Father/Son.

Meanwhile as part of our draft concessions we were get end of first round picks.

It would be standard practice for the AFL to allow that to go ahead though...

It would be utterly disgraceful so expect it to be approved.

The funny thing is that isn't even the most anti-competitive shit that takes place in the competition.

Nothing will improve until they remove bonuses for AFL Executives based on number of punters get thru the attendance gates.

It'd be actually funny if it didn't affect our ability to compete.

How can north not be involved in trying to get Bergman?… nah we will stick with the 5 foot, slow bloke, who doesn’t defend, while we wait for a perennially injured other bloke to possibly show something.

Might be because they have a fierce competitor in charge of their club.
How’s the balls on them!!……..no stadium, no guarantee of the team really exisiting yet, but they’ll get what they want.
These things always remind me of why we are where we are. Accepting of being last dog at the bowl.

Come on mate! 2nd year player being injured is not perennially injured ffs.

Absurd.

2021 Draft. Whatever that means! Hardly 4 full seasons as we're May of 2025.

Achilles injury amongst other poor luck. I don't understand the whinge.
It means fourth year. And the 'other poor luck' probably makes up the bulk of the 'perennially injured' claim. It's not a personal attack, it's just an observation. We're still relying on him and that's concerning

The fact that we need him to be good is hardly his fault.

He's played a handful of games. Yes he needs a decent run now, but he's no midget, he ain't slow and when he's back to some semblance of fitness, he's straight back in.

When you go all in on Mids with early picks, and have our poo record of developing talent - he's actually a considerable win.
