Well, considering that some actual news has been announced, I might as well start this thread.

Remember, this thread is for news articles/possibly tweets if half-reputable and discussion posts will be deleted - feel free to chat about the articles in the trade thread. Note that just because I post a story here doesn't mean I don't think it's probably rubbish (Denham, Ralphy, Waldron etc. [I really should update this list]) but it's worthwhile having a place to keep these stories together.

Also I won't be posting stories that break down to "Ex-AFL media personality thinks the Lions should pick up so-and-so" if there's no evidence that we're actually interested in that player.

West Coast present mega contract to Brisbane premiership star (Sayantan Guha, The Sporting News, 19/09)

West Coast have placed a bold six-year contract in front of Brisbane premiership defender Brandon Starcevich, hoping to lure the 26-year-old back to his home state of Western Australia.

The Eagles’ move, revealed by Perth journalist Ryan Daniels, comes as the Lions push for a fourth consecutive preliminary final appearance while still working to lock down Starcevich, whose negotiations have stretched into the late stages of the season.

Brisbane are understood to be “very keen” to keep him at the Gabba, but the scale of West Coast’s offer puts real pressure on their retention hopes.

Riley Beveridge: The Western Bulldogs have emerged as a potential home for Brisbane's Deven Robertson. West Coast is also keen, having chased him in 2023 as well. The midfielder is uncontracted and set for a fresh start after only four AFL games this season.

Connor Budarick has narrowed his decision down to either the Western Bulldogs or North Melbourne, if he leaves Gold Coast. The Suns have a deal on the table for him to stay, which he is still considering.

"It is essentially the AFL giving them (Eagles) Brandon Starcevich." - Cal Twomey on the Eagles receiving pick 19 as part of their assistance package

MIDFIELDER Deven Roberston has requested a trade from Brisbane to West Coast.

The 24-year-old played 16 games for the Lions in 2023, including their Grand Final loss to Collingwood, but has managed just six senior games in the past two seasons.

The West Australian had considered a move to the Eagles at the end of 2023, but decided to stay in Brisbane.

Two years on, he's requested a trade to the Eagles amid interest from the Western Bulldogs, which AFL.com.au reported earlier this week.

Michael Whiting: Chris Fagan announces Brandon Starcevich and Cal Ah Chee will be leaving Brisbane to take up their respective offers with West Coast and Adelaide.

Callum Twomey: The end-of-first round pick given to West Coast for its AFL assistance package will be tabled to Brisbane to get Starcevich so the Eagles don't dilute their Oscar Allen compensation pick.

Lions sign ruck, Bombers learn compensation pick (AFL.com.au, 04/10)

BRISBANE has boosted its ruck stocks with the signing of Essendon's Sam Draper as an unrestricted free agent, with the Bombers getting an end-of-first round compensation pick.

Draper has joined the premier, with the Bombers getting what is currently pick No.20, as reported by AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey on Friday, in this year's draft.

LIONS, EAGLES IN HOLDING PATTERN

BRISBANE will push to land West Coast's pick No.16 in a trade for Brandon Starcevich as negotiations trickle on between the clubs.

And tied up in the discussions will be the high profile move of Oscar Allen to the Lions, which is the last remaining major free agency deal yet to be lodged.

The Eagles were granted an end-of-first round pick (now No.22) from the AFL as part of their assistance package, leaving them with picks No.1, 16, 22, 23, 37 and 56.

They are looking to land Starcevich using pick No.23, the first pick of the second round, but the Lions are targeting Pick 16, the first-round pick that is tied to the Hawks.

West Coast wants to trade for the two-time premiership Lion so that it doesn't dilute the free agency pick the Eagles will receive for losing Allen, which is expected to be pick No.2. Both Allen and Starcevich are restricted free agents.

Brisbane is chasing an earlier pick to tally more points to match a likely top-five bid for Academy gun Dan Annable.

Brisbane premiership forward’s extension “very high” on priority list (Aidan Cellini, Zero Hanger, 06/10)

Brisbane will look to lock away Zac Bailey this off-season ahead of his free agency year as rival clubs, including Essendon, come hard for the dual premiership forward.
Ah Chee was offered a "significant" offer to remain in Queensland, but has elected to explore his options.

Starcevich, despite being a free agent, will likely be included in a trade with the Eagles, so the Western Australian club doesn't dilute their Oscar Allen compensation.

Brisbane is prepared to play hardball on the duo. "West Coast have expressed an interest in trading for Starcevich," Ambrogio said.

"We're open to all possibilities. I don't think it will be a trade directly between the two (Starcevich and Allen). But with regard to West Coast, their considerations are around the compensation pick."

The Lions see Ah Chee and Starcevich as similar values, and the Eagles' Pick 22 (formerly 19) has been linked with the latter. "Similar to Brandon. We'll know, we'll know good value when we hear it."

Ambrogio also confirmed that the chat with Essendon's Jordan Ridley didn't go very far.

CROWS RULE OUT FIRST PICK FOR CAL

ADELAIDE has taken its first-round pick off the table in trade talks with Brisbane over a deal for Cal Ah Chee.

But the Crows have thrown open the possibility of shuffling their top pick, or getting other clubs involved, as they look to secure a move for the two-time premiership Lion.

Ah Chee has already requested a trade to Adelaide, where he will take up a five-year offer, but the club has a gap in its draft hand after its initial No.15 pick.

The Crows also have picks No.47, 54, 56, 72 and 74, as well as their full suite of future selections, saying they'll be "open-minded" to moving picks around in order to get their deals done.

"It certainly won't be our first-round pick, that's for sure," Adelaide list boss Justin Reid said when quizzed on Ah Chee's trade price.

"There's a fair bit going on around us as well. We'll try and work in with some of those deals and see how we can better that hand."

Brisbane is likely to put a high price on Ah Chee, who played on a wing during the side's Grand Final victory over Geelong last month after starring roles at either end of the field during his six seasons at the club.

"His value is really high," Lions list boss Dom Ambrogio said. "He's a two-time premiership player. He's played six years at our footy club and I think he's played in something like 90 wins in that time. He is a really versatile player, he plays a lot of roles and he's really selfless.

"If it feels like I'm listing his CV because I think he's really valuable, that's because I am. We really think he is very valuable. We'll work through that with the Crows and I'm sure we'll come to a conclusion that's mutually beneficial." – Riley Beveridge

Callum Twomey: Expecting this to see pick 12 and Starcevich end up at the Eagles as well as picks 33 and 52, pick 16 go to the Lions and the Dockers then slide back from 12 to one of the Eagles' early 20s picks plus more.

Callum Twomey: Believe this is how the trade is shaping up to be ahead of being approved tomorrow with AFL lodgement.

Paperwork lodged.

Brisbane Lions have made an offer to restricted free agent Oscar Allen, West Coast Eagles.

West Coast Eagles now have 72 hours to decide whether to match the offer. The 72-hour period ends 4:00pm, Saturday 11th October.

West Coast Eagles have elected not to match the offer for Oscar Allen. Oscar Allen is now able to join the Brisbane Lions immediately.

West Coast Eagles will receive a Round One selection (currently #2) in the 2025 Telstra AFL Draft as compensation.

Haggling over Ah Chee

Brisbane want pick No.16 from Adelaide in exchange for dual premiership player Callum Ah Chee.

The Lions have not received an offer for Ah Chee, who turned 28 today and has requested a trade to the Crows on a five-year deal. The Lions have offered four years and a trigger for a fifth.

The Crows’ next pick after 16 does not come until 48, which will not satisfy the Lions, but list boss Justin Reid said this week the club would not be giving up its first-round selection.

Pick 16 will likely be pushed out several spots once father-son and academy selections are factored in.

The Lions are after points to claim highly rated academy prospect Daniel Annable, who is tipped to go in the first five, but picks 16 and 17 would give the reigning premiers flexibility to trade up the order or shuffle selections into next year’s draft.

Stalemate as things stand.

Callum Twomey: Deven Robertson will be delisted by Brisbane, which will open the door for him to get to West Coast as a delisted free agent or even as a rookie, given the Eagles have those four extra rookie spots this year. Either way he will land at the Eagles.

Callum Ah Chee’s trade to from Brisbane to Adelaide could go down to the wire (Callum Dick and Simeon Thomas-Wilson, Code Sports, 10/10)
“Obviously we value Cal highly and so does Brisbane and it’s something we just need to work through but … pick 16 or a future (first round pick) is probably not something that is going to be part of that discussion,” Reid told Trade Radio.

Reid confirmed the Crows had put forward a future second round pick to Brisbane in early dealings however that has not been enough to satisfy the Lions who admit they are still exactly sure why Ah Chee had requested a trade.
Reid confirmed there had been initial talks with Port Adelaide around a potential three-team deal that would have sent the Power’s second round pick – pick 29 – to the Lions in exchange for Ah Chee.

Instead, that pick was sent to Gold Coast on Friday in the deal that got Ben Ainsworth to Carlton and Corey Durdin to the Power.

Reid hinted that negotiations could stretch to the end of the trade period, which officially closes at 7:30pm next Wednesday.
