Well, looks like I'm opening up the 2025 trade discussion with this load of hot garbage (surely?!) from the Age today.

"The likeliest scenario is that Henry finds a way out of Ross Lyon’s doghouse" at the end of the season. Is this just pure speculation? I've not heard anything to suggest this.

Footy’s forgotten men: The player at your club who could be looking elsewhere for 2026

St Kilda

Liam Henry (one game)
The Saints traded for Henry at the end of 2023 for effectively a second-round pick, which was viewed as a coup, given the battles they have in bringing in talent. However, a knee injury ended the winger-forward’s first campaign after only 12 games – and he has played just once in 2025. The likeliest scenario is that Henry finds a way out of Ross Lyon’s doghouse. Dan Butler played his first AFL game this year in Sunday’s win over Melbourne.
Contracted until: End of 2027.

What a terribly uninformed comment. The standard of journalism is very low these days

So if TDK comes and NAS signs do we trade our 1st for Nergman given we can match for Fincher with lower pick?

Hope not. I think it's near certainly a top 6 pick and there are some really good players around that mark. I would like to take our picks to the draft. To me Bergman is worth a pick around 15 to 20. He's good but a terrible kick. Hastie probably develops into a similar player too.

I’m not sure why on earth he thinks Henry needs to leave the club after being here exactly 5 minutes?
Am I missing something here or is that a seriously stupid bit of journalism?

Please clarify new rules for me.
We can now match a bid at any stage. So are basically guaranteed to get any of “our” players we want?

But what do we need to pay, pick - wise? Is it the next pick we have available?

In other words we hope he isn’t selected too high so we can use that for a top draftee and then get him with a second or third rounder?

They are devaluing later picks so if you get a top 10 player the points needed to make up value are going to need more than a bunch of picks in the 30s and 40s. Clubs will be less inclined to trade away a higher pick for a raft of later junk time picks.

They’ve come up with this topic and obviously just picked someone from each list that hasn’t played much this season, there’s no acknowledgement of the knee concerns, which clearly he is struggling with. Hopefully he comes good.

yep, same reason that Butler gets a mention in the article, no investigation into the context of why they are/were playing twos. lazy stuff and while i appreciate it's hard for the author to be across the details of all 18 clubs, perhaps the article shouldn't have been printed in the first place. it adds nothing to the discourse and just fuels unnecessary, unfair and unfounded speculation

Yep depends on where we finish. Not sure we’ll have a top 6 pick tbh. Our pick could be around the 10 mark.
Not convinced we are that far away with troops returning.

The next 4 games will tell us a bit more about where we sit.

Hmm, not so sure about that. They'll tell us we're not a top 4 team, probably not a top 6 team and likely not a top 8 team. It could get ugly fast.

If we halve them we are a lot closer than if we take 4 heavy losses. Sends us into 2026 with momentum and hope. Attracts players etc.

I reckon we have 5 more winnable matches left. The others are probable losses. 5 more gets you to 10 wins. Take 2 more against the flow and all of a sudden finals are possible and who knows. It will be a log jam for the bottom spots in the 8. Take one off a competitor and it's a double win.

Fair enough. I guess l only want 2 things out of the remainder of the season. Nas' signature and not to finish in the 9-13 bracket.

I think we sit somewhere between 9th and 14th. Squiggle auto tip has us 13th with the same wins as 12th and 14th. Dons, Port, Roos, Tigers, WCE below us. That looks about right to me.

Stinks of lazy AI article - seems to be pretty much looking at games played, not reasons why

The comment about “Ross Lyon’s doghouse” in pathetic and not worthy of publication outside of anonymous social media posts.

Who wrote it? Damien Hardwick?

Matches into the AI theory - such material is only as smart as what's fed into it. If it's gotten even a whiff of social media...

I’d put blues in that group below us as well.

I think they have a few more easy ones coming up. They certainly deserve to be but a generous fixture helps their results.
