I found that completely astounding and pretty sad for a young footballer who clearly has talent. Could he have possibly been even even better?

Matty Nicks was on radio the other day talking about how they have the high performance bloke, but also a litany of coaches underneath him, e.g. weights coaches, etc. Pretty sure we just have the one, right?

The "soft" part of the soft cap is an allowance that clubs can still exceed the soft cap, but they need to pay a tax to do so. Not a lot of sources on the specifics but indicatively lesser of ~37% tax or $1M for one-offs or lesser of ~75% and $2M for regular exceedances. If a club has money, it can still gain an advantage on field. Distributions mean that North can reach the soft cap, but we often have priorities we need to spend on etc. that mean we don't cap it out + we have no real way of spending beyond it.

Adelaide reported ~$15m in profit in 2024, with a cash position of $8m. Unless there is a mechanism to stop exceedance of the soft cap all together after a period that I am not aware of, they could easily pay their way to a larger and more qualified team than we can.
