Good effort to beat last year considering no swans. It's by a small margin on every metric except for the streaming which was about 300k more this year. Overall got to be pretty happy with that result.

I still think the game should move to twilight, it's a poor tv product with the sun and red ball, as well as ch7 with their lower quality picture, sound and constant ads.

I watched the foxtel replay after with their own commentators, it was a 10x better experience. Obviously the afl can't do much about the ads and picture quality on fta, but making the most of that sun setting time with the entertainment more in the dark would make it a showpiece event. That's before you even get to the extra viewers that could be dragged in. 4.30pm simply moving everything 2 hours backwards would be easy and perfect.

Agree. Twilight.

I say it every year.

How do ratings account for all the large groups in pubs, at ovals on big screens, most people are watching in large groups at bbq´s etc.

I bet eyes watching it is more.

Maybe just my circle but I literally don't personally know anyone that doesn't watch it. Friends, family etc. Even non-die hards do something for it.

I honestly reckon this is why the Matilda’s semi final v England had the massive ratings, being on a Wednesday, which meant plenty more people watched at home rather than at the pub etc. Same theory as why the State of Origin matches rate just as high as the NRL grand final.

Yeah must admit I'm in favour of a twilight grand final rather than afternoon. As long as the sun is still up once the game starts.

It allows someone my age to pull an all nighter to celebrate rather than being too tired at 2am because I've been up since 5am.

NRL rated its socks off yesterday and will probably get well over 4 million on Sunday. This might push the AFL to change to a twilight timeslot.

Out of Home viewer measurements has been done for a few years in the US, but as far as I know hasnt taken off elsewhere.

People at home bbqs are taken into account - as long as some of them have the boxes

Very good ratings but I don't think that will be the thing that gets the AFL to move the GF to twilight. AFL to 7:

Can you imagine all the BBQs that won't be had if it were twilight.

Footy fans won't know what to do with their Saturday afternoon.

This I found an interesting comment from channel 7. Does this indicate the streaming numbers are included in the first columns 'reach' figure?

I always thought the reach was just for traditional tv viewers, then the streaming numbers were separate to that. If that were the case though, it should equal at least 7 mill reach, however this indicates maybe the last column gets included into the first column, as a total number of people that watched across any free platform?
