Something interesting myself and a mate have noticed on our foxtel guide, is when you click on 7 mate, it prompts you that you have to log in to 7 plus to view the channel. Not sure why it does this, unless they're trying to get all footy people to have a 7 plus account and foxtel are helping them in this endeavor, which wouldn't really make sense, as their shows compete.

I think 7plus is just a pain in the ass like that. I watch a lot of Blue Heelers on there, on my iPad using Brave browser (to block ads), and every few days it makes me sign in again to watch, without a “Remember Me” option.

If I had to guess, it’s probably because they want people using the native 7plus app, because the official app never asks me to sign in, it stays logged in.

Cricket is far from dead. Three consecutive 80k crowds at the MCG three days straight over the boxing day test. Very good ratings. High level of interest still in the BBL.
If you had have read my post you would have seen that I said LOI are dead. Which is no longer on FTA. Not 'cricket' in general. Which is still on FTA.

  • Kayo Sports’ biggest weekend ever driven by blockbuster event schedule including the Australian Grand Prix, AFL, NRL, The PLAYERS Championship, Supercars, and WSL Championship Tour.
  • More than 879 million minutes streamed, setting a new record for most minutes streamed across a single weekend.
  • Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix race becomes the most-watched Formula 1® race of all time across Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

Minutes watched - they did the same thing for the Vegas opener. Going to be the focus for Fox/DAZN, as it is for most streamers.

Example 1: Correct - this is a paragraph or two with a link.

Every so often the question of the ability of the AFL to withstand restraint of trade cases in court pops up for discussion, most recently with regards to the possible – if unlikely – deregistration of Kurt Tippett at Adelaide. To date, the most commonly cited example of restraint of trade applies to the a case featuring the NSWRL and a player which the NSWRL lost. The AFL draft and cap systems have not been challenged since being introduced in 1986.

Media releases would be an exception

Example 2: Not correct - this is not.

posting most of or the entire article as an image is a breach of the rules. You were warned and then did it again.

Ahh, I thought it were only paywalled sites, I deleted those snippets of the paid article, so didn't 'do it again'.

It's odd you can't post a screenshot of a snippet of a freely available article, with a link to it for the full article, but if that's the way it is...

Here are the article links for those interested.

Basically stating the AFL have increased their tv viewing lead over the NRL in the past year, now sitting at 9.1 million individual viewers compared to 7.5 million. With 40% more content consumed by AFL watchers.

The other article was from Josh Barnes looking into the regular claim by the NRL that they're the most watched sport in Australia. Basically pointing out it isn't that accurate when you dig a bit deeper.

There definitely appears a reasonably big shift to foxtel/kayo with their own commentary teams now. Also the super Saturday, i know two families myself that have signed up for the first time this year, so I'd imagine fox are pretty happy. Would be good if they provided some numbers to back this up though, not sure why they don't release them anymore.

We generally get numbers around round 10 or so next.

That's for the SD version. If you go to the HD channels numbers 7 mate is there and no 7plus is needed.

Cool I'll check that thanks. 7 mate is on about page 5 of my guide, so hd must be on about page 15 😅.
It's channel 257. 157 is the SD version. I was cursing when I went to watch the cricket that I needed to sign up to 7 plus. It was my brother who told me he didn't need to do that on his box. Further checking before I relised there was a SD and HD version of the channel.

A question on this. The afl fta games are often different games in each state. So effectively you only have roughly 2 states getting each individual Sunday game making the ratings look lower. Does the NRL do this too, or does every state get the same games on fta every weekend?

The reason I ask is, the 'average viewers' for afl games only shown in one market or two, will artificially appear as lower on a 'per game' basis across the year, if this isn't accounted for.

Where as the NRL games across the whole country will appear at the end of the year to have a much higher 'per game viewer average rating', coz it's one national game going out to everybody.

Is this accounted for when calculating the average per game viewers across a year? Or is it another NRL advantageous loophole, where the AFL figure looks much lower coz the audience is split across multiple games and states on a Sunday afternoon, but more people are actually watching AFL on fta on Sunday afternoon than NRL.

For example:
AFL Sunday afternoon
154k
Approx 200k
Approx 200k

3 games roughly a measly 170k average? or Sunday afternoon national fta audience 554k?

NRL Sunday afternoon:
528k average across the country coz everybody gets the one game.

I hope I made sense there.

Nah it makes sense, and something ive wrestled with in the reporting for a few years.

Its is one of the things that makes average ratings per game a bullshit stat on FTA, and why i try not to do anything outside of Thursday and Friday nights.

Its worth noting that the ratings for yesterday dont include the Swans in Sydney (but it does have the North/Dees which was shown into Sydney)

So the NRL game between two Sydney sides gets 528k with a combined 301k for the Sydney and Brisbane audience, leaving 227k left over? Is it claiming that the remaining audience is Melbourne/Adelaide/Perth, or is it all regionals?

What exactly are we expected to believe here?

If i had the specific regionals it would say so.

The national audience was 528k. The sydney audience was 202l, Brisbane was 99k. The remainder is the rest of the national audience including regionals and Melb/Adl/Per
